"That was pretty nice," C hesler said of the missed shots "If I don't have to make a save, I'm fine with that. It makes me look like a hero when I'm really not." Plenty of credit has to go to Mountain View's C.J. Garner, Travis f uller and Michael Moreno, as well as Chesler, as all four Bruins who stepped into the box easily put their PKs into the back of the net. "We just told them to go out and be confident, be composed, be calm," said Mountain View head coach Mark Graham. "It's intense, but they just needed to do it like they usually do it." The Bruins were lucky enough that the Darts shot first, and seeing Davis's Billy Harlow's blast going wide left to start things off certainly gave the guys in the maroon jerseys an extra cushion. Garner did the honors as the first kicker for Mountain View, nailing his kick into the top left corner. After a Davis score, Chesler stepped in for his shot. "They asked me if I wanted to shoot one and I said, 'sure,' " Chesler explained. "I just went out there and took it, just like practice." He put the ball into the upper right corner to keep Mountain Moun-tain View in front. The Darts converted on their third try, thus putting the pressure on, but Fuller hit his low and just inside the left post. That set up the second miss by Davis, as Phillip Hansen hit his too hard and knocked it over the top. All the Bruins needed was a goal by Moreno to seal the victory, vic-tory, and he didn't disappoint his team or the large body of Mountain View supporters, putting the ball away with a rocket to the lower left side of the goal. "We've been a little lucky, since winning a shootout takes some luck," Graham said. "I actually wasn't as nervous as I was during the game because at that point I couldn't do anything. any-thing. I think maybe the pressure pres-sure got to them (the Davis kickers) a little bit." The game itself was played mostly in the midfield, as both teams struggled to mount any serious offensive pressure. "Davis is technically solid, fast and physical," Graham said. "They didn't give the ball up. But the guys played well. I'm happy with the way we defended de-fended their two fast forwards. Davis and Brighton (who the Bruins defeated in the quarterfinals) quar-terfinals) are two of the best teams we've seen all year." I Jared Lloyd can be reached at 344-2552 or jUoydheraldextra.com. Region 4 baseball came into the 2007 season with a reputation reputa-tion as perhaps the toughest in the state. The much-touted foursome of American Fork, Lone Peak, Spanish Fork and Timpanogos came into this year's state tournament as a favorite to produce a champion. cham-pion. Turns out they couldn't even get to the next -to-last day. Timpanogos was the last Region 4 team to survive in the tournament and beat Viewmont 10-6 on Wednesday to stay alive in the elimination bracket. But too many errors (six) and too many stranded base runners run-ners ( 10) cost the T'Wolves in an 6-5 loss to Taylorsville in the last game of the evening. It was Timpanogos' second one-run loss in two days. rewind "It stings," admitted Timpanogos coach Kim Nelson. Nel-son. "We have no one to blame but ourselves. We pitched and hit the ball well enough to win but we just didn't make plays." Timpanogos (19-7) got the tying run to third base in the top of the seventh inning when sophomore Rhert Nelson singled, sin-gled, was bunted to second and advanced to third on a ground out. But a called third strike resulted in the third out and ended Timpanogos' season. "Anybody who was here saw what needed to be done," Kim Nelson said. "We just needed to make some plays. But I'm proud of the season we had.
