Bradshaw Auto Parts, which has supplied sup-plied parts for everything from the 1929 Model T to a 2006 Mustang GT. is part of a merger with 'fellow car parts dealer CARQUEST. CARQUEST is a privately held employee-owned company with more than 3.800 stores across the nation, 31 of those in Utah. The details of the merger have not been made public. The papers were signed Monday and the transformation transfor-mation began Tuesday. Bradshaw Auto parts was founded by Franklin Bradshaw in 1929 and is the oldest auto parts store in Utah, said Kerry Shumway, district manager of CARQUEST's Utah-Nevada area, who was on hand for the change. At the time of the merger Bradshaw had nine locations loca-tions in Utah. Just about the time the ink was drying on the contracts, moving trucks pulled up to clear out the American Fork location. The move will not be far. CARQUEST is located just two blocks west of the Bradshaw Brad-shaw location. The new. combined store is at 300 West and Main Street. Since CARQUEST is an employee-owned employee-owned company, there were individuals individu-als on hand from locations across the country, loading trucks and forming brigades to stack inventory on pallets. The remaining Bradshaw locations will be remodeled and renamed CAR-QUEST-Bradshaw Auto Parts. Dave Norton, one of the Bradshaw Auto Parts partners and son-in-law of founder Franklin Bradshaw, said he planned on selling the historic building, which used to be part of the Bamberger rail line and is eligible on the National Register of Historic Places. Street, especially a building that is historically his-torically significant to the city. "It is a landmark," she said. But Shumway Shum-way said the move made sense for both CARQUEST and Bradshaw. "It is a good move for both of us," Shumway said. "Everything will remain pretty much the same. We will offer the same services." Kelly Morgan, assistant manager of the Qrem location, said the announcement announce-ment came two weeks ago. Morgan, who has been with Bradshaw Auto Parts for 14 years, said, "This is a corporate thing, but they said we're not moving for now. American Fork is the only one that has been completely moved because it's so close (to CAR-QUEST). CAR-QUEST). All the others are going to be open and operating like normal" CARQUEST has been in Utah seven years, while Bradshaw Auto Parts dates back to the early days of the automobile. "It has been an icon for a long time." Shumway said. The merged firm will honor the guarantees guar-antees of both companies. "Anything and everything that was purchased through Bradshaw will be honored all warranties will be good." Shumway said. "With the merger, they transferred right over. We do have coast to coast, national warranties." Morgan said the goal is still to keep customers happy. "As far as I know it sounds like it will be an easy switch over," he said. "They said they are going to keep our customers custom-ers happy. Right now, everybody who's worked for Bradshaw will still be the people who you will deal with." For Orem. the switch will come in February or March when a complete changeover will take place. "We will be switching to their parts, but we could probably always get whatever what-ever people need." Morgan said. "The total facelift will happen later on, and they will come in and do a complete makeover of the store." CARQUEST will do in-store training, however, Morgan said he wasn't sure when. As the inventory was being loaded on trucks and stacked to be made ready in American Fork, Shumway said, "All the people in this building right now are owners. They have come from all over the United States like Montana, Washington, Oregon and Minnesota to help us. We do this a lot." CARQUEST-Bradshaw will keep all of the previous employees who want to stay.
