Ian is the son of Ron Dow of Orem and Paulette Barnhart of Springville. He will enter the Sao Paulo Missionary Training Center on June 23, 2004. WEEKS, JR. Times Correspondent It was the year 1937 in Orem. Karl Banks was serving as principal at Lincoln High School, as over 100 members of the Lincoln High School Senior Class were preparing to put on traditional tradi-tional caps and gowns and march across the stage of the school auditorium audi-torium to receive their diplomas. The Great Depression of the 1930s was winding down, and many Americans were worrying about what Adolph Hitler, the Dictator of Germany, might do with his expanded army and his determination to demonstrate his power throughout Europe. Grant was born June 14, 1909 to Anton and Minnie Katherine Shepherd Strebel in Provo, Utah. He was later called to serve a 30 month mission to KOLN, Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Heber J. Grant's brother was his mission president. In less than five years, many members of that graduating class would be serving in the Armed Forces of the United States, participating in World War II, and hoping they might be counted among the fortunate ones to return home to Orem, to rear their families and enjoy the freedoms, which they had helped to secure for themselves and their fellow Americans. " v.. r'Siasc'. mm Anton Strebel Grant married Jean Macdonald of Mesa, Arizona on June 15, 1935 in Oakland, California. He built a very successful business with New York Life Insurance Company. The Strebels have donated donat-ed several of their collections collec-tions to The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum at Brigham Young University, where they are on display today. Grant lives at The Seville retirement community in Orem. Louder, co-chairs of the event. These graduates have outlived all of their teachers at Lincoln High School, and have reared hundreds of children, most of whom, never had the opportunity to attend Lincoln High School, like their parents. One of their favorite teachers, Lincoln High music teacher Elvis B. Terry, passed away, just two months ago.
