Show Page A10 Thursday, October 31, 2002 Times Newspaper Cascade looks to spring open second nine-hole golf course ira EAT Officers cited a 30 year old man Saturday for leaving two children inside a car unattended while he was shopping at Pet Smart. The witness who called had actually noticed the children in a car alone at one business and then followed the man to Pet Smart where the man left his six and one year old children in the car alone. A misdemeanor citation was issued and a court date given. Citizens alerted police of a cruelty to animal case on Saturday night in the area of 300 E. 400 S. Someone had taken a Blue Heeler dog and taped its mouth closed, and its feet together and put the dog inside a plastic bag and left it on the side of the road. The dog was found before it suffocated and officers were able to release the dog and take it to animal control. Officers arrested a 18-year-old man of Provo, and 23-year-old man, of Orem, for criminal mischief early Sunday morning after they smeared human feces on the public telephone receivers inside the entrance to Walmart. The pair acted as though what they were doing was just a big joke and didn't understand why the officers were making a such a big stink over it. The officers told them that they were ones who created their own stink and booked them into the Orem holding facility. Officers arrested 37-year-old man of SLC, and 54-year-old man of SLC, for theft, after they were found loading up tire rims from behind the Falkler Tire Store at 984 S. State into the vehicle they were driving. The pair had loaded 14 rims and were preparing prepar-ing to leave when the officers stopped them. They lied about having hav-ing permission to take the rims, but a quick call the owner confirmed con-firmed what they were, just a couple of thieves. A woman reported yesterday morning that a strange man crawled through an open window of her apartment. She fled the apartment and called the police. Officers arrived and found a 33-year-old man, of Springville, inside the apartment. He was arrested for burglary and booked into the Orem holding facility. He appeared to be under the influence of a drug and told officers that he was in his sister's apartment. He wasn't. Officers arrested a 24 year old man of Provo, for possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. He showed up at a music store in Orem and tried to sell them a French Horn. He told investigating officers that he found the instrument outside out-side a music store in Provo and took it from there and brought it to Orem and tried to sell it. Officers are checking into a possibility possibil-ity that the horn was stolen from a local high school. The homeowners were lucky, as no serious damage was done to the home after one of the residents disposed of ashes from the fireplace by putting them in a cardboard box and then placing the box up next to the side of the home. The ashes were hot enough to catch fire to the cardboard box which then started the outside of the home on fire. It was reported by a neighbor and quickly extinguished. Just melted some of the aluminum siding and never made it into the home itself. A 55-year-old Lehi man was misdemeanor cited yesterday for lewdness after he was reported by another man to have been on West Geneva Road wearing only an overcoat. The witness said the suspect parked his truck next to the witness' car and the suspect sus-pect flashed the witness by opening his overcoat and exposing himself. Officers contacted the suspect at his home in Lehi (a plate number was obtained) and the man came in to be interviewed. inter-viewed. His story was that he had been planning on skinny dipping dip-ping in the lake and the poor witness was unfortunate enough to have seen him before he could make it into the water. Under construction for the past three years, the upper nine-hole course is being built at the north end of the lower nine-hole course, which has been . used for more than 30 years. The lower nine-hole course was remodeled and expanded two years ago with a new clubhouse, a new driving range, two 18-hole putting courses and an 18-hole putting course on a natural golf green. It is built on the largest natural grass green in Utah. Few of . those who regularly play golf at the Cascade Golf Center know the fascinating story of how this golf course came into existence.
