Boy Scouts of America welcomes its 100 millionth member The Boy Scouts of America announced an-nounced that the 90-year-old organization or-ganization officially reached a historic his-toric membership milestone with the addition of its 100 millionth member. Mario Castro, a 12-year-old from Brooklyn, N.Y., became the 100 millionth member of the Boy scouts of America, the premier pre-mier youth-serving organization . in the country. Castro joined Troop 986, sponsored by St. , Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. "Reaching this milestone proves how valuable and enduring endur-ing the lessons provided through Scouting are to our society and our youth," said Jere Ratcliffe, Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America. "The Boy Scouts of America has prepared 100 million youth and adults for life through effective character, citizenship, and personal fitness . training, and we are dedicated to preparing 100 million more." The hcnorees are those who have served in the system for 20 years or 30 years or those who are retiring. Five of those receiving honors are currently working in Orem or Provo, while the remainder remain-der are in cities from Springville south. Those serving in Orem and Provo are: John L. Clark (retiring): Clark has been an instructor at the Bountiful and Viewmont Seminaries and the Tucson Institute Insti-tute of Religion. He was also principal prin-cipal of the Centerville Junior High Seminary and the Institute DirectorCES Coordinator of the WestLafayette Institute of Religion Reli-gion before joining the full time religion faculty at BYU. He is married to Linda R. Clark and they have six children and 11 grandchildren. He is retiring after af-ter 38 years in the CES. Albert W. Hoffmann (retiring): (retir-ing): Hoffman has served in the Indian seminaries in Albuquerque, Albuquer-que, NM, and Winslow, Ariz. He also taught in the Orem High Seminary and the Draper Institute Insti-tute and served as principal of Eastmont, Utah, Junior Seminary. Semi-nary. He has also been CES coordinator coor-dinator for the Metropolitan New York Institute at West Point, Columbia, Co-lumbia, Princeton, Rutgers and Yale, at director at the Westminster Institute, AAPF of the Utah Valley South Area and ADEA of the Orem Institute of Religion. He is currently the Associate As-sociate Director of the Orem Institute. In-stitute. Hoffman is married to Patricia N. Hoffman and they have two children and 13 grandchildren. grand-children. He is retiring after 35 years in the CES. Wayne Brickey (retiring): Brickey has served in the Brigham City Seminary and the Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Grossmont, Pocatello, St George and Orem Institutes of Religion. He is currently working in the college curriculum area of the Central Office, the second time he has received that assignment. assign-ment. William Larsen (30 year award): Larsen has been an instructor in-structor in Motpelier, Idaho, and a coordinator in Birmingham, Alabama, and Roanoake, Virginia. Vir-ginia. Joseph Walker (30 year award): Walker has been an instructor in-structor at the Granger Seminary and the Orem Institute. She is mariied to Clark Day and they have five children and 17 grandchildren. Ralph McClain (retiring): McClain is currently an instructor at Springville Senior and Junior High Seminaries and a homebound instructor. H is retiring retir-ing after 24 years in the CES.
