Pitching, defense and renewed bat strength led Timpanogos to wins aver Mountain View last week and Orern on Monday. "Going into the season, I thought we had a chance to he pretty good," Timpanogos coach Kim Nelson said. "I had some questions ahout the depth of our pitching and our defense, hut we have heen good in both those areas. ar-eas. I figured we'd swing the bats well, and we have." The Timberwolves certainly swung the bats well against Mountain Moun-tain View and Orem, beating the Bruins 10-4 and the Tigers 9-1. Timpanogos also got stellar pitching performances from Cory Belnap and Brandon Taylor. Both players went the distance, with Belnap giving up just seven hits and logging nine strike outs against Mountain View and Taylor Tay-lor holding Orem to just one run. Taylor did more than just pitch on Monday, he also went 4-4 at the plate, drove in five of the T-Wolves nine r uns and hit two home runs. Also playing well for Timpanogos against Orern was Gabe Adams, who had three hits, two of them doubles. The same two players, along with Belnap on the mound, were the big guns against Mountain View the week before. Battle Bay BMX holds open house Battle Bay BMX will have an open house Thursday, April 27, 2000, from 7-9 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Junior High School (810 North 100 East in Pleasant Grove). The open house gives those who have been involved in BMX in the past to renew acquaintances acquaintan-ces and those interested in becoming be-coming involved in this fun family fam-ily activity, the chance to find out more about BMX. At the open house, people will have the chance to meet the new 2000 track officials, local racers and the 1999 state champions. There will be free raffle tickets given at the door and which will be drawn throughout the night. Demonstration will be given and interested parties may pick up the 2000 race schedule and register for the coming season. The Battle Bay BMX track is located at 2130 West 600 South in Lindon. It is accessed through the Lindon Boat Harbor. The track is organized and run by dedicated volunteers. To celebrate this event, the Icelandic Icelan-dic Millennium Commission of Iceland is sending Icelandic performing per-forming groups to Canada and to the USA. Two of these groups are coming to Utah. Five hundred years before Columbus, Co-lumbus, Gudridur Thorbjarnadottir became the first European female to travel to North America. This Icelandic woman settled and lived out her years with her family in North America. Gudridur's saga will be retold on the Villa Playhouse Theatre stage in a one-woman show May 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. The theatre is located at 254 S. Main St., Springville. Written by Brynja Benediktsodittir, The Saga of Gudridur is the story of Gudridur Thorbjarnadottir (Tristan E. Gribbin) and her life in the first Iceland and Greenland settlement settle-ment in North America. Set around 1005, The Saga of Gudridur follows Gudridur through her unsuccessful attempts at-tempts to reach the shores of begin hunting for goodies at North America to her eventual settling of Hop, believed by researchers re-searchers to have been in the location lo-cation of modern day New York City.
