Show pll OnOflCi i0 Quarterly y t " uMratt i o II July 21, 1999 Senior Happenings Adult Living Assisted Care Tours Medical Oirem Seniors Animate Friendship Center With nearly 10,000 Senior Citizens now residing in the City of Orem, the Orem Senior Friendship Center, 93 North 400 East,'-- is taking on - a -more significant role in their lives, as programs at the facility are being expanded to reach all Seniors with a variety of interests. Under the direction of Jerry Ortiz, Orem Director of Recreation, and Charlotte A. Wilde, Recreation Program Coordinator for the Orem Senior Friendship Center, a wide variety of programs are being carried out under the auspices of the Center. Orem Senior Citizens are invited to meet with friends at the Orem Senior Friendship Center to enjoy enriching experiences, intellectual stimulation, fulfillment. A daily (transportation physical fitness - educational and artistic nutrition program is available), television, assistance programs, and varied information and referral services, according to Mrs. Wilde. Membership in the Orem Senior Friendship Center organization is open to all men and women 55 years of age and older without restrictions as to race, religion, creed, sex, national origin, political belief, or income. NUTRITION PROGRAM The Orem Senior Friendship Center hosts a luncheon Monday through Friday at 12 noon, featuring a' hot, nutritious meal, socializing with friends, as well as musical and informal programs. Luncheon reservations (229-7111) are required the day before by 12 noon. Transportation for home-bound home-bound individuals is available through United Way by calling 374-9306. According to Webster's Dictionary, Dic-tionary, these are just a few of the many definitions of the word COMMUNITY. While Thomeberry Atrium isn't in the dictionary as a definition defi-nition of community, it could be. A new senior Irving complex in Pleasant J Grove, Thomeberry Atrium provides those 55 and older who are looking for an affordable place to live where they have complete freedom and independence, yet have everything they need for comfort and activities provided. "We are a totally independent indepen-dent senior living facility," manager man-ager Lauren Dance said. "Instead "In-stead of being an assisted living liv-ing or medical facility, we are here to provide pleasant living for seniors." Dance was quick to point out that, even though this is not an assisted living facility, she will contract for such help or "allow individuals to make their own arrangements for such care if it is needed. " According to Dance, the fact that Thomeberry doesn't retain re-tain its own staff for medical needs, keeps the costs down, both for those who don't need special care and for those who do. ' ' v "Assisted living places have to charge everybody for the cost of the care given, whether they need the same level of care or not," she said.
