Arthritis Foundation offers free brochure Arthritis can be a difficult and painful disease to live with. Taking an active role in managing manag-ing your disease and establishing a strong relationship with your doctor or health care professionals profes-sionals are two of the best ways you can help yourself cope with arthritis. In the brochure "Help Your Doctor Help Yourself, the Arthritis Foundation provides guidelines to help those with arthritis take an active role in managing their disease, how to become "partners" with their doctors, doc-tors, get the most information from visits to their doctor, and choose which types of health professionals are right for them. Clear communication between be-tween both you and your doctor can be helpful in directing the management of your arthritis. By following prescribed treatments, monitoring their effects, and explaining ex-plaining feelings and reactions to your doctor, you can create a strong relationship that can benefit both you and your doctor. For a free copy of the brochure, call the Arthritis Foundation, Utah Chapter at 48604993, or toll free at 1-800-444-4993, or write to 1733 South, 1100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84105. The Arthritis Foundation is the source of help and hope for an estimated 240,000 Utahns who have arthritis. The Foundation supports research to find the cure for and prevention of arthritis, and seeks to improve the quality of life for those affected by arthritis. HEAT program begins in November The Department of Human Services' Office of Family Support will open its Home Energy Assistance Assis-tance Target (HEAT) program in November. The program is a federally funded assistance program pro-gram designed to help eligible low income people pay a portion of their winter home heating bills. The HEAT program opened Tuesday, November 1, 1994, for the elderly and disabled. The general public can apply starting Tuesday, November 15, 1994. HEAT offers a one-time payment. The amount paid depends on loca tion, type of fuel used, household size, and income. Any cost above the HEAT payment must be paid by the applicant. Interested parties may call their local Human Services officer for the location of the nearest HEAT Office. They may also call 4874718 if living in the Salt Lake area or 1-800-472-4716 if living outside of the Salt Lake area. Applications Ap-plications are available at most senior citizen centers, utility companies, com-panies, and community service agencies. Home visits are available for those who are house bound.
