Legion Tigers end with four wins The American Legion Tigers ended league play last week with wins over Helper and Emery. Against Helper, Orem won the first half of the doubleheader 5-3. Adam Brown and Seth King shared pitching duties for Orem. Brown was also strong from behind the plate, scoring two runs and going 2-2 on the night. Brent Noel and Jon Clark were both 2-3 and Jeff Jackman belted out two RBIs. Orem defeated Helper a second time 11-1. Lance Ericksen shut down the Helper offense from the mound while Shane Bel-liston Bel-liston led Orem offensively. Bel-liston Bel-liston went 4-4 and had two doubles and a home run. Ryan Hales was 3-3, Clark was 2-2, and Jackman had three RBIs. In their first game against Emery, Orem fell behind 4-1. With one out in the seventh inning, in-ning, Adam Brown smacked a three run homer to tie the game 44. Belliston and Hales got hits, Jackman walked, then Lance Ericksen powered out the game-winning game-winning RBI. Dave Norton pitched for the Tigers. The Tigers' second game with . Emery wasn't quite as close as the first one. Jon Clark and Lance Ericksen combined pitching duties to shut Emery's offense down. About midway through the game, the Orem offense broke away from a 1-1 stalemate to win the game 5-1. Ericksen was 2-3. The Tigers ended league play after winning five straight games. Orem finished with an 11-7 11-7 record. Farm Bureau schedules local talent contest The annual Utah County Farm Bureau Talent Find competition com-petition has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 10, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds, according to Neil and Kathryn Anderson, chairmen of the Farm Bureau's Young Farmer and Rancher Committee, Com-mittee, which sponsors the contest. con-test. County winners in each of three divisions will compete in the Utah Farm Bureau Talent Find at the Utah State Fair on September 17th. The divisions are: Beginners - up to six years of age, inclusive (This division will compete only at the county coun-ty level); Junior ages seven through 12 inclusive; Intermediate Inter-mediate - 13 to 17 years of age; and Senior -18 to 30 years of age. 0 rem Automotive team takes second in By Gina Clark, Sports writer The Automotive Tigers probably would have liked to take home the first place trophy at last week's state tournament. But Orem's second place finish is something coaches Jon and Tyler Mitchell feel good about. "The season overall had to be a suc-cess...I'm suc-cess...I'm just really proud of the kids for the state tournament," Jon Mitchell said. After winning their division, the Tigers opened the state championship cham-pionship with a 14-1 win over West Jordan. Neil Buckwalter pitched for Orem, while Kyle Walker, Max Olsen, and Josh Quai each racked up two hits. That win launched Orem into a match-up with American Fork. The Tigers beat their region four opponent 13-3 in seven innings. Donny Green pitched for Orem. Walker, Olsen, and Jason Gonzales Gon-zales led the squad offensively with two hits each. In their third game, Orem met up with Taylorsville-a team that had beaten the Tigers by some ten runs earlier in the year. This time though, "the kids came ready," Coach Tyler Mitchell said. Gonzales Gon-zales pitched Orem to the 4-3 victory, vic-tory, while RBIs from Casey Hansen Han-sen and Adam Lisonbee put the Tigers over the top. That third win put the Tigers in the winners' bracket where CLASSIFIED ADS - For Sale - Auctions - Miscellaneous - Orem-Geneva Times does not endorse, en-dorse, promote or encourage the purchase or sale of any product or service advertised in this newspaper. A lackluster day from behind the plate gave Orem the 7-2 loss. Orem met Viewmont in their next game and decided it was payback time. Viewmont defeated defeat-ed Orem 6-2 earlier in the year. Orem topped them 9-2 this time. Buckwalter was outstanding from the pitching mound, while Walker, Gonzales, and Lisonbee were defensive standouts. Walker had a three-run homer, and a Gonzales single sent two Tigers home, giving Orem the lead to stay. A win over Viewmont placed Orem in the championship game with Bingham. The Tigers had to beat Bingham twice to win the tournament, but were most concerned con-cerned with winning the first game. For the Tigers there was "a lot to forget" in the Bingham game, Tyler Mitchell said, as the Miners powered their way to a 13-3 win. Still, Orem can be proud of their 12-4 record, their division championship, and their second place state finish. According to both coaches, the team really pulled together well. "The kids have gone so much further than I ever expected," Tyler said. Jon ALASKA JOBS! Fishing Industry. In-dustry. Earn up to $3,000-$6,000 per month. Room & Board! Transportation!
