View Soccer Orem-Geneva Times Bruins take Region track title keeps winning By Candace Perry With the wind blowing and the rain falling lightly, dedicated track and fielders warmed up on Orem ; High's track May 9 and 10 to compete com-pete in the Region 4 track meet The weather was but a mere ' hindrance as Mountain Views ; boys and girls track team ran away with both region titles. Mountain View's boys scored first with 151 points. Orem came in a close second, only 15 points behind, be-hind, with 138 points. Both the Orem and Mountain View-boys raced neck and neck but the Bruins pulled ahead for 1st, Orem placed a heartwrench-ing heartwrench-ing 2nd. The schools seemed untouchable un-touchable as the quest for the title was between only Orem and Mountain View. The Region's other schools had to settle for 3rd place and below. How Can You Protect Yourself Against Telemarketing Fraud? Wilt By Candace Perry Mountain View's soccer team just doesn't understand the word 'lose". The Bruins beat Timp-view Timp-view last Tuesday, and Orem in the Region playoff game Friday. And Coach Dave Wooley's Bruins have a good shot at the State Championship. In the game against cross-town cross-town rival Orem High, Mountain View hosted the Tigers in one of the most exciting games of the season. Mountain View's David Weiss scored the only goal of the night early in the second half. According Ac-cording to Coach Dave Wooley, Hirschi's pass to Weiss crossed the goal-line before Weiss booted it in for good, so the goal could have possibly gone to Hirschi instead in-stead of Weiss. Both coaches agreed it was an excellent game, and it could have gone either way. The defense and the offense on both sides played tough. The player's superb ball handling skills and techniques made the game quite a match to watch. This ended Orem's season with a 4-5-1 region record, just missing qualification for the state tournament. Mountain View ended with a 9-1 record, losing only to American Fork. Mountain View is host to the first state playoff game on May 17. Last week the Bruins clinched the Region Soccer Championship. Cham-pionship. The Bruins defeated Timpview 2-1, and Orem 1-0. 1991 Season Outlook 1991 promises to be an exciting year for baseball. A lot of things happened over the past year that could influence the coming season in more ways than one. In the National League, some teams have helped themselves. The Los Angeles Dodgers have made some big, shaking moves over the past year they've acquired some free agents like Darryl Strawberry. But that doesn't guarantee that they're going to win a championship. You still have to go out there and play the game for nine innings. The team that can go out there and perform is the team that's going to win. There's no question that the New York Mets are going to miss Strawberry. They're going to have to change their whole philosophy their whole pattern of winning. They used to have a power game, but now they're going to have to go back to trying to steal a base here and there and hoping their pitching can hold out. If no one gets hurt, I think my team, the Atlanta Braves, is going to be a team to be reckoned with in 1991. We have a lot of good young players such as David Justice, Ron Gant and Terry Pendleton, along with some young pitchers who now have a few years under their belts. In the American League, Oakland is still the team to watch. They're still intact they still have their horses to win with. As a result, I think the A's are still the club that teams are going to have to be concerned about in 1991. Toronto is a ballclub that I like. Although the Blue Jays lost some players, they really strengthened themselves with the trades they made. They helped themselves in a lot of ways they got Devon White, Joe Carter and one or two other good players. They've been right at the door a number of times, and I think they're going to be a tough ballclub this season. The Baltimore Orioles have a lot of young, talented ballplayers right at their peak, and there's been talk about that team's potential. Frank Robinson did a whale of a job with them last year, but it's still a very young team, and it will be hard to pull off another miracle. San Francisco is a good ballclub. But there are still some questions as far as their pitching is concerned. It's a funny thing about the Giants one year they have good pitching, and the next they all have sore arms. So this is the year they're supposed to have good pitching. If their pitching staff holds up, they can win some ball games. Overall, the 1991 season looks to be an interesting and unpredictable one. And we won't really know which team will be sporting championship champi-onship rings until they get out there and "Play ball!" M Hank Aaron is the top home-run hitter of all time with 755 homers. A member of baseball's Hall of Fame, Hank is senior vice president of the Atlanta Braves. 1991, PM Editorial Services receive a telephone sales call. f or a tree copy of Swindlers are Calling, or for more information about NFA, call toll-free 800-621-3570; in Illinois, 800-572-9400.
