Com-merce. The parade was the day after Thanksgiving and featured Santa Claus, clowns, dignitaries, marching mar-ching groups, fire trucks and horses. hor-ses. "The parade and the Orem lighting ceremony kind of kick off the Christmas season in Utah Valley," said Steve Densley Chamber president "They also help promote our area and give local business a boost to begin the season." Orem mayor Blaine Willes threw the switch to officially launch the Christmas season in Orem Nov. 27. The Sandgren Sounds provided entertainment and little Caesars Pizza provided free pizza. Santa Claus visited with the children and gave them candy canes from Hansen Candy. Miss Orem Gina Moody and Miss Utah Valley Community College Sherie North attended Santa. AIM sets goals for 1990 Goals and strategic plans for Provo's downtown area during 1990 have been drafted by the Association of Involved Merchants Mer-chants (AIM), according to Linda Walton, executive director. Three primary goals will be pursued by AIM during the coming com-ing year, said Walton. They are promotion of a positive downtown image, development and redevelopment of downtown, and serving as an ombudsman between be-tween business and Provo City to promote better communications and problem solving. , The AIM board of directors has established 12 strategies to accomplish these goals and to maintain downtown's growth, Walton said. "The upswing in downtown Provo is evidenced by the many recent announcements regarding new buildings and new companies moving in to take advantage ad-vantage of the growing Provo economy," she said. Specific strategies for 1990 include in-clude working with Provo economic development office to develop seasonal activities that will bring visitors and customers to the downtown area. Beau-tification Beau-tification projects such as snow removal, litter control, landscaping landscap-ing care, control of kiosks, exterior ex-terior maintenance of private buildings and weed control will be carried out. In addition, AIM will assist with the solicitation of an Olympics Olym-pics venue in Provo, circulate monthly newsletters to AIM members, develop promotional brochures, maintain an annual budget for promotional activities, and encourage attendance at monthly AIM meetings. Monthly meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 8 a.m. in room L900 of the Utah County Building, 100 E. Center in Provo. f; 1 . IATNE A.
