He transferred to Weber after playing two years junior college football for Coach Walt Criner at Snow College where he was all-conference all-conference guard. The Weber State Wildcats tied Idaho for the Big Sky Conference title ti-tle then went on to the 1987 National Division 1-AA football championship where they lost in the quarter finals to Marshall University from Huntington, Hun-tington, West Virginia. Weber State finished the season 10-3, best ever in the Wildcats' history. Doug's major is Physical Education Educa-tion and minor in Computer Science. ) i ' DOUG KALLAS Cougar Basketball '88 There is something unique about Cougar basketball. So the players are big, strong and talL Their arms are long and their hands quick. They train and eat and don't get sick. Their legs and feet are long and fast With hearts and heads that are first class. The forwards are alert to make the dunk shots, The guards are prepared to make the clean blocks. Some are near seven feet and can drop the ball in, And always play fair and do not sin. They practice hours to make baskets short or long, And to become professionals; is it wrong? It is interesting in the Conference the strategy that is played, The tempo in Hawaii is slow and deliberately delayed. The "Y" likes a fast passing and running offense, And uses a tight man-to-man or zone defense. Haws, Call and Toolson are great at handling the ball. But to be champions the team must be good at it all. Taylor is a passer and can do it with style, So watch him accurately pass "back hand" for a mile. Chapman, Smith and Usevitch are a highly touted front line; They have size, talent and tricks to score any time. Yes, Coach Anderson, you have a great and winning team, They are honest, good guys and surely not mean. J. Calvin Croft 332 E. 200 N. Orem, Utah ore in Utah By Garth Carter Information Manager, Cedar City Most Division of . Wildlife resources personnel have heard the question, "Why are Utah fishing licenses so expensive compared to fishing licenses in surrounding states?" The price of an adult resident fishing license in Utah is $18, and is the second highest when compared with a California license which costs $18.50. The same license will cost $11 ' in Coloado; $10.50 in Idaho; and $7.50 in Wyoming. Why is the cost of a fishing license in Utah on the higher end? Before the phones begin ringing at the Division of Wildlife Resources offices, keep in mind the necessity for Utah to stock most of its fishing waters. This means that the state must hatchery-raise r Ice fishing in Southeastern Utah By Heather Welker Information Manager, Price While many people prefer to stay indoors to escape the cold winter months, others enjoy the outdoors enough to meet the challenge of ice fishing. Ice fishing, for some anglers, is an opportunity to enjoy beautiful snow-swept scenery, quiet uncrowd-ed uncrowd-ed fishing conditions, and excellent opportunities to catch large fish. Good ice fishing spots in the southeastern region of the state include in-clude Scofield Reservoir, which is considered one of the best ice fishing reservoirs in Utah; Joe's Valley; Electric Lake; and Millsite . Reservoir. Some points to keep in mind when ice fishing: Ice hole must not exceed 12 inches in diameter. It's unlawful to have more than one rod or tip-up pole per person and to use live bait or corn. 1 There is a possession limit of 8 trout per person fishing the reservoirs. When in doubt, consult the 1988 Fishing Proclamation. The Division of Wildlife resources is concerned about the problem of littering lit-tering at many of the state's reservoirs. reser-voirs. Wildlife officials encourage anglers to remove all garbage, including in-cluding discarded fish, from the site. Furthermore, anglers are asked-when asked-when it's necessary-to take the litter , left by those who are less considerate. Many anglers are aware that some of , Utah's most popular reservoirs do not have sanitary facilities, so they come prepared with containers. large percentage of its fish because most of our waters do not naturally reproduce trout. Utah's fishing waters must be stocked and anglers are able to fish year round. Consider the fact that most states have waters that naturally produce enough fish to satisfy public demand for fishing opportunities. In addition, Colorado has developed other sources of funding. Utah has more people and less water than Idaho and Wyoming and a larger percentage of the state's residents engage in angling activities. Hatchery-raised fish typically cost the division an average of $2.16 per pound to raise. The fees collected from the sale of fishing licenses go directly towards raising more fish. Hunter ed courses available The Division of Wildlife resources has scheduled courses in firearm use, outdoor survival and wildlife conservation conser-vation during the month of January. Classes are scheduled statewide and interested individuals should contact the nearest division office for courses date and time. In addition, wildlife officials remind re-mind potential hunters born after December 31, 1965, they are now required re-quired to show proof of competency in hunter education before purchasing purchas-ing a Utah hunting license. Donkey Baskeball coming to OHS Orem High School's annual Donkey Basketball Game will be held on Wednesday, January 27, at 7 p.m. in the Orem High gym. The game is an event that has occurred every year for the past 20 years. It is a sport that pits teachers against students riding on the backs of donkeys. The donkeys are provided by "The Burro Farm" out of California. The company also provides the officials. The players were voted on by the students of Orem High who found it a good way to find revenge on fellow students and also on their teachers. All seniors and students were fair game. The game costs, in advance, $2.50 for students, $3.00 for adults, and $7.00 for a family. At the door ticket prices are: students $3.00, adults $3.50, and families, $8.00. All proceeds go to help fund the Athletic Department at Orem High.
