Show H.B. "JACK" AND DONA SUMNER Sumners Commemorate Fiftieth Anniversary The children of Harold B. "Jack" and Dona Sumner hosted their parents at a family dinner held at a local restaurant recently in honor of their 50th Wedding Anniversary . A pieced handmade quilt depicting each grandchild was presented to the anniversary couple. The quilt was made by Mrs. Steve (Sherry Sumner) Heaps. The couple were also presented with a gold framed fram-ed artwork of the Salt Lake Temple. "Jack" and Dona were married Sept. 4, 1934, in Logan, Utah. The marriage later was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Children attending the anniversary dinner were Jack and Eris Sumner, Brent and Becky Sumner, and Sandra and Dick Speechly. The celebration also included 12 grandchildren. A granddaughter and two great-grandchildren who live in San Antonio, Texas, were unable to be present. Clyde Strong, son-in-law, also was out of town and unable to attend. "Jack" was born June 18, 1911, to Thomas and Florence Bean Sumner. He received his education in local schools and worked for the Provo Herald before purchasing the Orem-Geneva Orem-Geneva Times in 1953. Dona was born May 2, 1913, in Provo to Joseph William and Melvina Bennett Clark. Both have held several Church positions and also have been active in civic organizations. They each have always been supportive of community affairs. "Jack" was named "Outstanding Citizen" in 1982. Dona is currently president of the Orem Business and Professional Women. An open house planned for September 29, 1984, was cancelled due to the untimely death of their daughter Sylvia Sumner Strong, who died September 22, 1984. UVRMC Offers Free Blood Sugar Tests Utah Valley Regional Medical Center will be offering free blood glucose (sugar) tests on Wednesday, November 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the main (north) lobby. The capillary (finger prick) test detects high or low blood sugar, and theorvlyrequirement is that participants not eat within two hours before the test. General fatigue and sleepiness can be indicators of either low or high blood sugar. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can usually be easily corrected through diet, but high blood sugar (diabetes) is very serious and, if left untreated, can lead to major organ failure. Hansen Orem-Geneva Times Thursday, November 8, 1984 An open house in honor of Lurleen G. Loveless Hansen will be held Sunday, November 11, 1984, from 3 : 00 to 6 : 30 p.m. It will be held at her home in Orem, 611 East 800 South. Her children invite friends and relatives to be present as Lurleen is honon-d on her 80th birthday. Lurl'ien was born November 12, 1904 in 1 ehi, Utah to George Hyrum and Louisa Munns Goal es. She married Vernie James (Bo ) Loveless in the Salt Lake Temple on May 6, 1924. He died Janaury 26, 1945 leaving her with three children: Mrs. Clifton " (Peggy) Pyne, Orem; J. Vern Loveless, North Salt Lake and Mrs. Dow (Elaine) Decker, Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked at the Dixon-Taylor-Russell department store in Orem for three years then transferred to the Provo store as a drapery consultant for 20 years. She has held many church callings including MIA President of the Sharon Stake during which time she received her Golden . Gleaner Award. She served as organist, chorister, and teacher in many organizations. She enjoyed teacher her Primary class at age 74. She was a charter member of the Orem Business and Professional Women's Club and served as their president. She was chosen by the club to receive their Woman of the Year Award. She was a member of the Women's Legislative Council and a member of the Orem Booster's Club serving as one of its first board of director members. On June 21, 1965, she married Julian J. Hansen. They enjoyed traveling before her confinement to a wheel chair 12 years ago. She presently maintains her home and enjoys visits from friends and family. She lias 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. The friendship and love of friends are cherished gifts, the family requests no other . LURLEEN LOVELESS HANSEN Lorie Rasmussen To Marry Kelly Cloward Lorie Jacob Rasmussen, daughter of Dave Jacob and Linda Rasmussen, will become the bride of Kelly Wester Cloward, son of Ben Cloward and Danell Wadarski. The couple will be married November 9, 1984, in Payson Canyon. A reception will be held in their honor that evening from 7 to 9 at the Eagles Lodge, 501 South State, Provo. Dancing will begin at 9 p.m. Bridesmaids will be Suzanne Jacob, Terry Glover and Tammy Farley. Flowergirls will be Andrea Jacob and Corinne Jacob. Dave Gilson will be best man. Stewarts Celebrate 50th Anniversary Raymond R. and Ava Beckstrand Stewart of Orem were guests of honor recently at a family celebration at Woodland Park, Colorado, commemorating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The couple met in Salt Lake City and were married November 13, 1934, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Twenty-five family members were present for the three-day celebration in Colorado. Stewarts are the parents of four children : Barbara (Mrs. Howard Uibel), Cheney, Washington; JoAnn (Mrs. Ronald Lewis), Pacifica, California; Raymond Craig, married to Karen Holdaway, living in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Suzan Kay (Mrs. Michael Young), of New York City. They have 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ray was born August 5, 1910, in Provo, Utah, to Scott P. and Myrtle Maiben Stewart. He attended school in Provo and also Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. His employment started at age 13 with the Sutton Market of Provo, then A. T. & T., Sewell's Grocery Chain, Salt Lake County; and U.S. Steel from which he retired in 1974. He developed and operated the Timp Haven Ski Resort (Now Sundance) in Provo Canyon from 1944 through 1960. He taught skiing at Timp Haven and Snowbird for 20 years. Ava was Born February 13, 1913, in Meadow, Millard County, to Heber W. and Mary Elizabeth Stewart Beckstrand. She attended the local schools and graduated from Millard High School. She later graduated from the Utah Technical College in nursing, and she worked for local doctors in Orem. Woman Charged With Felony A Provo woman was charged with a 3rd degree felony after she was arrested for shoplifting clothing, cologne and makeup valued at $274.
