Orem Friends Library Week With Drive Brochures are being distributed distrib-uted at Orem City Library inviting in-viting Orem area residents to join the Friends of the Orem Library Organization. A concerntrated membership drive is currently underway and is the feature of this year's Rational Library Week observance obser-vance April 12-19. The friends are a group of citizens who believe in the importance im-portance of the Orem Library as a cultural, educational, and recreational resource group. They recognize the value of books and reading for young and old alike, and they wish to extend and improve library services throughout the community. Mr. Heaps is a prominentbus-iness, prominentbus-iness, civic, and church leader. Allen W. Nielson served as chairman chair-man of the library board and is chairman of the counselors at Orem High School. Mrs. Norton and Mrs. Johnson each have five children and are active ac-tive in church and PTA. Mrs. Johnson has worked as a Scera Recreation Ski Instructor. Mr. Squire, a successful accountant, has been active inbusiness, civic, and religious capacities. Through membership dues, Friends will provide funds for acquiring additonal books, periodicals, per-iodicals, records, art prints, film stripsvand other library materials and equipment needed to better serve the citizens of Orem. Friends will aid the library in providing the following: shut-ia service to private residences and nursing homes; support for expanded youth and young adult services and programs; mini-library mini-library in various locations; adult education programs; support service to schools with sub-standard library resources; exhibits, story hours, film presentations, and other cultural programs, vacation reading programs. Friends will promote gifts of books and money to purchase books and other materials. Friends will aid in developing public awareness of the library's unique contributions to the community. com-munity. This week is designated to help the community commun-ity see the importance of the early years of the child. Mrs. Francis Barlow will speak Thursday on guidance. Banquet Set For RSVP Organization Mayor Grange will be the guest speaker at the annual RSVP Recognition Re-cognition Banquet April 24th. He will address his remarks to the hundreds of senior citizens who donate their time and abilities to serve the. community. The RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Vol-unteer Program) is a nation wide organization that coordinates volunteer vol-unteer services offered by retired re-tired senior citizens. It has been operating in Utah Valley since 1972. According to David Gardner, RSVP director of Utah Valley, the purpose of the banquet is to publicly recognize all the volunteers vol-unteers for their service to the community. The banquet will be at the El-dred El-dred Center starting at 5:30 p.m. All volunteers will be admitted free of charge and nonvolunteers must purchase a ticket for one dollar. Entertainment will be provided by- various groups and by the Twenty Three Man Harmonica Band made up completely of retired re-tired senior citizens.
