Orem Vins Defensive Battle A score of z-U sounds like a baseball scorebut it was the actual score of a great defensive battle between Orem and Murray last Friday with the Tigers on the high end of theLscore. The entire game was one of almosts with Orem almost getting a touchdown and almost making a field goal. Frustration continued to build right up to the end,.with the 2-0 margin holding from ine first quarter. Orem's defense started from the very first time Murray got their hands on the ball. The Tigers held them and took ovei on their own 45-yard line after a punU, The Golden Tigers moved the ball on running plays right down to the 10-yard line for a first and goal to go. The Spartans' defense tightened and on a fourth-down keeper, quarterback quarter-back Gary Crowton stretched as he hit the ground. The ball looked as though it hit the line, but it was put back to the six -inch spot by the referees. On the Spartans' first play (a run toward the right side of tke line), defensive man Dave1 Johansen and Lennon Ledbetter stopped the ball carrier in the end zone for a two-point safety-- which held for the winning points. The Tigers were stopped from making a first down at this point and tried a fieldgoal and it was short. The two points held for the victory. Coach Molen had high praise for the entire defensive unit, observing that this was the finest defensive effort he had ever seen. Jaycee Football Standings When the midway point of the Jaycee Junior League Football Foot-ball finished last Saturday the only undefeated team was the Falcons. The Falcons are coached by Bob Maynard and to this point they have not been scored upon. The standings could change within the next few games because be-cause any team in the league has the potential of defeating the league-leading Falcons. Everyone is encouraged to come and watch these young athletes in action. All games are played on the East baseball field at the Orem City Center. To make it more enjoyable the Orem Jaycees have a concession con-cession stand and they serve hot dogs, hamburgers, candy bars and drinks. After four years of trying to win their own Orem Kiwanis Invitational Crosscountry meet, the Orem High Tigers achieved the much sought-after victory Tuesday to beat out teams from all over the state. And the winner of this meet the past three years has gone on to win the state cross country coun-try championship, according to Coach Bill Delaney.
