Show Movies At Library Jo Enrich Reading Due to the In jne fan program, Orem City Library in cooperation with tht Brigham Young University is offering of-fering again a special and exciting experience for readers. The student's interest in reading will be stimulated by a series of .three full-length, color feature films to be shown each Wednesday Wednes-day at 4 p.m. in the Multipurpose Multi-purpose room of Orem City Library. The films to be presented are: Jan. 24, "Davy Crockett - King of the Wild Fronfipr .Ian si F un and Fancy Free (animated stores: 'Bongo, the Circus Bear"; "Mickey and the Beanstalk) Feb. 7 Make Mine Music (animated (an-imated stories: "Casey at Bat'; "Peter and the Wolf; and others) Each film will last approximately approx-imately 1-112 hours. Adult supervision will be provided by the Library and Special Courses and Conferences, BYU. Parents are encouraged to register their children early to assure their participation. The cost is $.50 per showing per child or $1.25 for the three-film three-film series. (Families wanting to register four or more children may do so at a reduced price of $1.00 per child for the three-film series.) Frank Lay Homed Bonds Chairman Frank Lay, Business Agent for Ironworkers Local No. 27, was recently appointed as Utah State Volunteer Labor Chairman for Savings Bonds, it was announced by Wendell E. ARTHUR 30-Year Service Pin Goes To Keith Arthur E. Keith Arthur of Orem was presented a service pin last Monday Mon-day in recognition of his 30 years Federal Service. The presentation presen-tation was made in impressive ceremonies at the Central Utah Projects Office by Project Manager, Man-ager, Palmer DeLong. Mr. Arthur's entire career has been with the Bureau of Reclamation. He began work in Vernal, Utah, as a field surveyor. Later he worked 4 years in the Central Utah Projects Office In Spanish Fork in design and 12 years in Durango, Colorado in the designs and estimates branch. In 1963 Keith again joined the; Central Utah Project at Provo where his talents have been used in project planning. Keith was born in Tooele and was reared and received his early education in St John in Tooele County. In 1943, Keith received his degree at UtahState University inAgriculturalEngin-eering. inAgriculturalEngin-eering. FoUowing his education Keith spent 2 12 years in the U.S. Army. He served as a 1st Lt. in the infantry in the European Theater of operations during World War II, where much of the time he was in the front lines. Mr. Arthur stated he has fully enjoyed his time in Federal service ser-vice and his work has been most rewarding. The most enjoyable part of the service has been in the field where he could follow, the planning, designing, and construction con-struction of various features of, the projects. Keith has made a valuable contribution to the planning plan-ning of the Central Utah Project. He is also a registered professional profess-ional Engineer in Utah and Colorado. Since 1963, Keith and his wife, Anne, have made their home in Orem where they have been very happy. They are the parents of 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. They also have 4 grandchildren. Cordial Club Hears Talk On Great Women The Cordial Club enjoyed an interesting and informative meeting Tuesday January 9 at the home of Mrs. Dell McCann, 311 South 700 East, Orem. Mrs. Janayne Payne spoke to the group on the Inspiration of Great Women. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. McCann, Mrs. Frank Breznick, Mrs. Jay Eitner, Mrs. Leon Robinson and Mrs. William Nelson. FDA Extends Drug Safety Control -Actions to insure drug safety by the federal I ood andDrugAd-ministration andDrugAd-ministration (FDA) are beginning to effect drug store sales and will have great effect in the future, Dr. Alan K. Done, director, FDA Pediatric Pharmacology, told a University Medical Center Audience Aud-ience recently. Stressing that the safety of drugs is a prime consideration of the IDA, the former University Univer-sity of Utah Medical Schoolpro-fessor Schoolpro-fessor stated that 'The safety of all new drugs will be assured before they are marketed." Dr. Done, whotonsiders himself him-self a past "outspoken critic" of the FDA, explained to the Medical Center audience that the "FDA goal is to make sure all drugs sold in the U.S. do exactly what they purport to do." His speecli was sponsored by the Intermountain Regional Poison Poi-son Control Center, an Inter-Mountain Inter-Mountain Regional Medical program pro-gram component project, and the Medical Center Division of Clinical Clin-ical Pharmacology and Toxicology. Toxicol-ogy. Explaining federal drug efficacy ef-ficacy study .programs-. the physician stated that the FDA is testing drugs which are presently pres-ently suspected of being dangerous. "Although millions of drugs, whose efficacy are not know, are being marketed across the country, coun-try, all new drugs are tested and their safety assured before they are allowed to be sold," he said. Dr. Done added that the FDA has great difficulty in regulating non-prescrption, over- the -counter drugs. But he stressed that "The net result of FDA actions will soon reveal a decent collection of safe drugs on drug Orem-Geneva Times January 11, 1972 store shelves," . FDA guidelines and regulations regula-tions concerning drug labeling and advertising are tightening, according to theformerSaltLake doctor. "It is important to remember," Dr. Done said, "that the FDA controls interstate drug com merce but cannot regulate drug marketing within the boundaries of only one state." He pointed out that fundamental fundamen-tal studies in drug safety packaging pack-aging were conducted at. the' University of Utah.
