Utah Plants Fish In Flaming Gorge Utah's part of Flaming Gorge fish plants has been completed with the stocking of about one niiiiiou fingerling sized rainbow trout. In addition, the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife is stocking stock-ing the reservoir with nearly another an-other one million fingerling trout. Wyoming also plans to stock an additional million. Following the plant in the reservoir, res-ervoir, Utah Division of Fish and Game personnel stocked 225,000 fingerling sized rainbow trout in the Green River from the Flaming Gorge Dam downstream to the confluence of Red Creek. Plants in the reservoir were made from planting barges which are equipped with aerating systems sys-tems and allow fishery workers to distribute the fish in all parts of the reservoir. The fish stocked in the river were first put into plastic bags at a rate of 4.5 pounds of fish per bag and new oxygen added before sealing the bag. Bags of fish were loaded on rubber rafts and these fish released re-leased into the river as the Fish and Game officers floated downstream down-stream in the rafts. r : ortstwmooMe ,rr rA REP. LAURENCE J. BURTON (left) was informed today by Rep. Gerald R. Ford (R-Mich) that Burton has been appointed appoint-ed to the important Republican Policy Committee. Said Ford: The Policy Committee is perhaps the most important the Republicans have...and we are honored to have Larry Burton as a part of this committee." Burton Named To Policy Committee Rep. Gerald R. Ford (R-Mich.) Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, today announced an-nounced the appointment of Utah Congressman Laurence J. Burton to the important Republican Policy Pol-icy Committee. We in the House have recognized rec-ognized Larry Burton as a man who uses skill and strategy in pursuing the important issues of the day Rep. Ford said. "That is one reason we in the House Leadership chose to appoint Larry to the policy committee." The Michigan Congressman said the policy committee "is perhaps the most, important the Republicans have, because the committee decides policy on the top legislative issues on Capitol Hill issues which involve not only Congress, but the American Ameri-can people we represent. The leadership in the House have been watching Larry Burton ever since the people of Utah sent him as their representative in 1962," Rep. Ford continued. We have seen Larry in action in the House Interior Committee, the Select Committee on Small Business, and on the convention floor in Miami where he was a Nixon leader. Larry Burton was re-appointed this year to the House Whip Organization, and the important Public Land Law Review Re-view Commission, because of his fine work accomplished in those two organizations. As Minority Leader, I can select seven members for the policy committee. Larry is one of them. I think the people of Utah will be honored, as I am, to have a leader such as Larry Burton deciding policy for the Republican Republi-can Party." Utah Congressman Laurence Burton, when told of the appointment ap-pointment by Mr. Ford, said he was greatly honored and will try to live up to the expectations expecta-tions of the House Leadership." Provo scored one run in the first inning when Affleck couldn't get his breaking pitches working, but Orem countered with two runs in the second. In the third inning, inn-ing, Provo threatened when two men reached base with one man out. The next batter lined one to shortstop, TommyThompsonwho threw to second forcing the runner run-ner for the double play to end the inning. Orem rallied for two more runs in the top of the fourth when Affleck singled with two men out. Stan Sumner followed with a single sin-gle to center. Man of the hour, Thompson, blasted a sizzler ; through the middle and beat it out for an infield hit to load the bases. Then Rick Allegane dropped drop-ped one down the rightfield line for a double scoring two runs. Provo scored one run in the bottom of the fourth before the Tigers sent the Bulldog pitcher to the showers with two runs in the fifth. McMillen started things off with a single, then stole second. Schofield stepped up and slammed one all the way to the fence for a double scoring McMillen. Kent Peterson kept the rally going when he singled home Schofield for another tally. Provo threatened again in the bottom of the seventh when they scored one run then loaded the bases, but Affleck retired the side to end the game. Orem now has a 4 win, 4 loss record. Development of proper techniques tech-niques of getting the eggs from the green stage to the "eyed0 stage is the biggest problem facing fac-ing technicians in developing the methods of hatching out walleye eggs under conditions at Utah hatcheries. Fishery workers took about 4 million eggs from spawning fish at Willard Bay and the eggs were taken to Scott Avenue Hatchery and Springville Hatchery where they were put into special hatchery hatch-ery containers. It was about 7 days before the eggs developed to the "eyed" stage and 6 days to hatch, for about 13 days total time from delivery to the hatchery to hatching. hatch-ing. Over 800,000 walleye were stocked in the lower Bear River from the Scott Avenue Hatchery and 700,000 stocked InYubaRes-ervoir InYubaRes-ervoir from the Springville Hatchery. Hat-chery. Walleye are stocked immediately im-mediately after hatching because of losses which occur from these fish feeding on each other when crowded up in hatcheries. Although the percentage of eggs hatching out of the total taken during spawning operations was less than 50, this initial effort is encouraging.
