Show Orem - Geneva Times - Thursday, April 25. 1963 Over 50 Members of Orem Faculty Participate in Civil Defense Program Over fifty members of the Orem High faculty and administration admin-istration were recently sworn in as Civil Defense Representatives. Represent-atives. These faculty members now have the legal right to act. in directing capacities in the case of a prarctice alert or in the time of war. Some of the members of the group are specially trained in radiological monitoring and some are specially trained in medical self-help. All are authorized as Civil 'Defense Representatives. They have been active in getting a Civil Defense evacuation evacu-ation plan ready for the Orem area and two alerts have been quite successfully conducted. 4 Young Men Hurt in Mishap Four young men received minor injuries in a two-car mishap April 17 at 1600 South State. Emergency t r eatment at Utah Valley hospital was given Ronald W. Jacobsen, 22, 1610 S. 50 E., Orem, Kent O. Coles, 25, Robert P. Lewis, 24, and Robert C. Meadows, 23, all of Provo. All received cuts and bruises. The accident occuurred a3 their car, driven by Mr. Coles collided with another driven by Derril LaVon Barnum, 19, 400 E. 1646 So. Damage to the Cole car was estimated at $500, and to the Barnum car, $400. Mr. Barnum was cited by investigating in-vestigating officers for failure to yield right of way. County Schedules Merit System Exam Applications for examination will be issued by the Utah County Merit System, Room 201, City and County Building at Provo, Utah for filling an eligible register for the position posit-ion of Deputy Sheriff, an-nounces an-nounces Fred Fish, Chairman of Utah County Merit Syetem. The applications for examination exam-ination may be secured from the Utah County Commissions Secretary, Marie Van Wagen-en, Wagen-en, anytime prior to May 13th and must be filed with the Merit System Commission not later than May 13th. An examination ex-amination will be given at the Brigham Young University on May 17, at a cost of $3.00 per applicant. A physical examination examin-ation will be required by the 28th day of May by the appli- L. Gillman Takes Reserve Training Army National Guard Sgt. Larry B. Gillman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alroy Gillman, 115 S. Seventh E, Pleasant Grove, Utah, recently completed a 12-week 12-week equipment maintenance course under the Reserve Forces Act program at the Engineer En-gineer School, Fort Belvoir, Va. Sergeant Gillman is regul- cant's own physician. LOCAL PEOPLE ATTEND REGIONAL MEETINGS Robert Brandt, 465 S. 850 E., Orem and Mrs. Sam Brewster, 230 E. 4075 N., Provo are among 80 ministers, laymen and lay women of the United Church of Christ attending a Western Regional Lea ders Meeting in Salt Lake City this week.
