Doctors Reveal New Exam Plan For Athletes Dr. Elmo Eddington, President Presi-dent of the Utah County Medical Med-ical Society, today announced a policy recently, established by the doctors of the Society so that better service may be given those people of our community engaged in group athletics. Dr. Eddington pointed out that many young people have heretofor been required by organizations sponsoring group athletics to have a special physical examination for each of many activities. For example ex-ample a young man will have had a separate examination for his participation in school football, church basketball and Boy Scout camps. Such activities have required requir-ed severa1 visits to the family fam-ily physician each year. Dr. Eddington noted that such examinations ex-aminations are frequently given giv-en to large groups of athletes in response to last minute requests re-quests just before a game or camp. As a result, the checkups are often superficial and usually us-ually do not include basic blood and urine tests which would make the examination more complete. The following policies were recently voted into effect by members of the Utah County Medical Society which also includes physicians of Juab and Wasatch Counties. Each individual, required by a sponsoring spon-soring organization to have a physical examination for ath-, letic participation, is to have a complete physical examination examina-tion including a hemoglobin test and urinalysis once a year or after a shorter period "of time if the family physician recommends that an individual individ-ual be checked more closely. A nominal fee Is to be charged charg-ed for these examinations. -- i S f " ' if , fij Y) fin J Facts are to the mind, what food is to the body. Edmund Burke Facts are stubborn things.
