DEC. 23, 1959 Final Inspection Of 3 High Schools In District Slated At its regular monthly meeting, meet-ing, t.e Board of Education of the A'pine School District announced an-nounced the final inspection dates of three new $1.6 million senior high schools. Msmbers f the Board, school officials and the general contractor will inspect the buildings prior to official acceptance of the senior sen-ior high school plants. Frank C. Greenwood, President, Pres-ident, Boyd Fugal, Murray Dawson, Dr. Phil Shumway and George I. Bone, members of the Alpine School District Board of Education will be accompanied ac-companied by Dale Price, Principal Prin-cipal and Max Rosenlof, general gen-eral contractor, when the Lehi Senior High School is inspected inspec-ted on December 29, 1959, at 9:00 a.m. On the same day, but at 1:00 p.m., Don C. Overly, Over-ly, Principal and Richard J. Talent Contest By David Thomas Orem High School has been selected to participate in a national na-tional inventory of youth talent, tal-ent, according to information received by Alpine School District Dis-trict Superintendent Dan E. Peterson. Four other Utah high schools have been designated participants in "Project Talent." Tal-ent." Described as "The first sci-enticially sci-enticially planned national inventory in-ventory of human talents," the survey is being made through the University of Pittsburgh, supported by the United States Office of Education, Educa-tion, with assistance from the National Institute of Mental Health andt he Office of Naval Research. Orem High School is one of about 100 public, private, and parochial schools scientifically selected on an equal probability probabil-ity basis to represent all types of secondary schools in all regions re-gions of the country. "Project Talent" will begin its inventory in March of I960 in order to coincide with the 1960 population census. Scores from the tests, which will be checked by electronic equip ment, will be made available to the individual school, to be used as the school wishes, but "Project Talent" will not evaluate ev-aluate specifiec schools, nor compare one student with another. an-other. J Quill and Scroll Club Sponsors Writing Contest By David Thomas Orem High School's Chapter Chap-ter of the Quill and Scroll, the International Honorary Society for High School Journalists, is sponsoring a Creative Writing Contest open to all students of Orem High. Deadline for the stories to be entered in the contest will be Thursday, March 31, 1960. The Contest is divided into three categories. The first is the short story, which may be anywhere from 1000 to 7000 words in length. Second is the essay from 500 to 5000 words. The third classification, the general articles, is divided into in-to categories, the biography and the autobiogology. General articles may range from 500 to 5.000 words. Tentatively, the first prize, May the radiance that shone 'round the Christ child brighten the way for each and all of our friends at Christmas.
