Show Oram - Geneva Times Thursday, Oct. 8, 1959 Opening of Center Street On Last Lap Completion of one of Orem City's most important projects the result of nearly two years I negotiation, litigation and bard work is within sight this week. Orem's Center Street, who3e opening and improvement west of the city hall has been sought by city officials for nearly a dozen years a public safety measure will soon be open for travel from the city hall west o the administration building of the Columbia-Geneva Division Divi-sion plant, U. S. Steel Corp. Actually, the street has just been hard surfaced from State Street to 800 West, and from 400 East to 800 East. The work has been done under special improvement districts set up earlier this, year by the Orem City Council. Under an agreement with the Utah State Road Commission and Gibbons and Reed, Interstate Inter-state Freeway c ontractors, $250,000 Worth of excavating equipment has removed an estimated es-timated 70,000 cubic yards of fill from the steep hill located at lOOQ West. Center. The city was fortunate in arranging ar-ranging for this work to be done while the huge earth moving mov-ing equipment was working on the nearby freeway. N!ext step is for Orem City road crews to do the finishing grading on the road bed which has been newly-cut through the hill on a gradual grade. Upon completion of grading and graveling this area, Center Street will be physically opened open-ed for vehicle travel from the city hall directy west to the ateel plant. Albert Scorup, 87, father of Mrs. C. Wilford Larsen, died Monday at the D. W. Allen Hospital Hos-pital in Moab, Utah. He was born Sept. 29, 1872, at Ephraim, Utah to Christian C. and Karen H. Scorup. One of Utah's most prominent promin-ent cattlemen, he operated one of the state's largest ranches located in San Juan and Grand Counties. He was president-manager president-manager of the Scorup-Somer-ville Cattle Co., president of the National Bank of Moab, and vice president of the First State Bank of Salina. He married Emma Theodora Bayles Jan. 2, 1895, in the Salt Lake Temple. She died Jan. 20, 1935.
