Claims' For Unemployment; Director Transferred During the past week 91 residents resi-dents of this area filed claims for unemployment compensation. These payments average twenty-five twenty-five dollars apiece an addition to the community's purchasing power of $2,275, stated Arthur D. Coleman in his last news release. Manager of this county's State Employment Office for the past four years and an employee of the public employment office since 1937, Mr. Coleman has been assigned to work in the State Administrative Ad-ministrative Office in Salt Lake City. He has accepted a newly created position in connection with the administration of the Unemployment Un-employment Compensation for Federal Civilian Employees Pro gram. During January 1955, 60 people were placed in local positions compared to 38 a year ago. Utah County job levels are expected to average 1,000 higher positions in 1955 than was the situation last year, his report concluded. Alpine Schools Hold Seminar On Kindergartens The kindergarten program of the Alpine School District was closely scrutinized by kindergarten kindergart-en teachers, elementary school principals, supervisors, and Superintendent Su-perintendent Bdrton at a meeting held recently at the Lehi Elementary Ele-mentary School. The meeting was under the direction di-rection of Miss Alice Parker, Supervisor Su-pervisor of Primary Grades, and the kindergarten committee consisting con-sisting of Naomi Shaw, kindergarten kinder-garten teacher at Lehi Elementary Elemen-tary School; Verena Decker, kindergarten kin-dergarten teacher at Westmore School in Orem; and Bertha Barn-hill, Barn-hill, kindergarten teacher at the Geneva Elementary School in Orem. Characteristics of the five-year-olds were discussed, the purpose of the kindergarten program out lined, and the responsibilities of the kindergarten teacher defined. The committee pointed out that the daily program of the kindergarten kinder-garten child includes at least sev en periods: Choosing Time or Work-Play period, Conversation, Out-of-Door Activity, Refresh ment Time, Rest Time, Music and Rhythms, and Story Time. teaching at the Lincoln rflgh School in Orem. Mr. Bischoff has been abrad ing the Utah State Agricultural college for the past four years, majoring In Industrial arts edu cation. He is one of 17 USAC students practice teaching in schools inl Utah schools. . They began teach ing Feb. 7 and will continue for six weeks.
