Wilson Wil-son said that because of more efficient use of medical personnel person-nel in the service, the "Doctor's Draft" law can be modified- The law which will be up for action in Congress this week : would exempt from service doctors and dentists who have already serv ed more than 17 months in World War II.SThe old law required 21 months service for exemption. COAL fires . . .A minor Dill which I voted for in Congress this week may prove of value to Utah miners. The bill sets up a research project in the Department Depart-ment of Interior to investigate the causes and control of underground under-ground fires in coal formations. TOUGH ON TRUSTS ... Another An-other bill I approved this , week was to increase penalties for violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Anti-Trust Act from $5,000 to $50,000 Under the present law, a $5000 maximum penalty was not high enough to act as a deterrent to any corporation who willfully violated the law. MORE APPROPRIATIONS . . The House passed and sent to the Senate the appropriations for 1954 for the Departments of State, Justice and Commerce. As with all other departments, these three also were trimmed far under un-der the amount requested by the old administration. STILL A BILLION . . . Although Altho-ugh the budgets of the three de partments were cut $326,347,803 under what was requested, the appropriation totaled nanawritien instructions were not acceptable, and the package I nv0ran was either rated up to first class $1,143,146,712. A Child Safety Crusade Is being be-ing launched this week by the local health department to educate edu-cate parents to the dangers in the home area that threaten the lives of their children.
