Would Direct Tourist lo Mountain Meadows ine iron County Record, a weekly newspaper printed at Cedar City, in an editorial points out that Cedar City is passing up a chance to increase local tourist travel because they have failed to preserve an ImDortant historical marker. The editorial is quoted as fol lows: "We refer to thp mnnn ment at Mountain Meadows be tween Enterprise and Veyo. Of coures, this is lust as imnortant to other towns of southern Utah as it is to Cedar City, but the Cedar City Chamber of Com merce took the initial steps to set up a monument at the John D. "Something should be done to preserve and maintain this marker and its surroundings, and to see to it that a good road, well marked, is nrovided to make it possible for those who desire to do so to visit the place. It has tremendous historical value and for iths reason alone, it should be preserved. We hope someone does something about it soon." For the uninformed, the editorial edit-orial has reference to the place where John D. Lee was executed execut-ed and buried in 1877 at the site of the famous Mountain Meadows massacre following his trial and conviction at Beav. er the year previous for allegedly alleged-ly taking part in the massacre which occured in 1857.
