PROVO UTAH IT HAPPENED AT DEER CREEK LAKE Mr and Mrs. Harold Bunnell were fishing at Deer Creek Lake the other evening with friends. While baiting his wife's pole, Harold got a bite, and his pole with brand new reel was Jerked overboard. In trying to rescue the pole, Harold leaned far out of the boat, and his new pen and pencil set (a birthday present from his wife) went overboard. He was disgusted, but did not like to spoil the party, so when his wife offered her pole he took it, but bad luck was after him and he broke it. His brother broth-er Milt, in a near-by boat offered offer-ed his pole, but Harold's bad luck oursued him and he dis abled the loaned line and decided decid-ed he had better go home. The next evening Mat and nartv went to the lake, which was alive with boats. He got a bite, which proved to be a snag, and low and behoia, he pulled up his brother's pole, automatic reel and fish, (a whopper) still caught tight on the line. A true fish story, believe it or not, and can be verified by the Bunnell brothers, outstand ing fishermen of the community. Building- Boom Mounts Steadily Building permits totaling 141 have been issued by Ed Wick man, Orem city building inspec tor, during the first six month? of the year. VETERANS, ATTENTION The GI bill of rights has been extended to include the veterans veter-ans who are working on a farm or who are leasing a farm in any way. Purpose of the bill is to assist the veteran to become adjusted ad-justed and train to better his position. This type of training is now ready to proceed at Lincoln high school under the direction of the Ag. teacher, for the summer sum-mer months. Keith Boyer reports re-ports that a veteran must attend 200 hours of class work and the veterans trainer must spend one hundred hours with the veteran on the farm. A minimum of 8 hours per month is all that is required during the busy summer sum-mer months. The subsistence right of the bill of sixty-five dollars single, or ninety dollars married, is paid on this type of training. Veterans Veter-ans who would like application blanks or help on any of this may call 0101R4, or see Keith Boyer at Christeele Acres No. 12. Now is the time to stajt the training as the classes are organized or-ganized and teachers hired to do the training. Gift for European Orphans A gift of $102.33 from the Community Congregational Church, Provo, Utah was received re-ceived recently by the United Church Service Center' here. This money will be used toward the purchase of a dairy heifer for shipment to war-stricken lands. Each heifer costs approximately approxi-mately $150.00. The personal touch that makes a service a cherished memory, the thoughtful attention to details Jhat is so comforting com-forting to bereaved families these are to be found in every service conducted by Berg, regardless re-gardless of cost. tee, an international group which has sent over 1700 dairy heifers to war-torn Europe, is now seeking seek-ing gifts of both cash and kind for this unusual and perennial means of relieving hunger abroad. Under the plan many farmers have contributed heifers heif-ers of excellent breeding, with individuals and organizations giving cash which the committee commit-tee uses to buy Holstein, Guernsey Guern-sey and other kinds of dairy cows. These heifers, after being be-ing bred, are shipped to France, Poland, Greece, Italy, Czechoslovakia Czechoslo-vakia and other countries where war has killed off dairy herds. On the last shipment, 25 calves were born on board ship, thus adding to the potential life-giving supply of milk for mal-nour-ished children. The heifers are "stributed to orphans' homes, ' uberculosis sanitoriums, and private families which are able to guarantee sufficient grazing and feed. It would be interesting to calculate cal-culate the thousands of glasses of milk which this heifer and her descendants will furnish to the starving children of Europe.
