Several Park City vendors have been asked to participate as well. Marking its second year in Park City, the relay is considered a family event in which everyone can participate. There will be face painting, a Velcro wall and Sumo wrestling suits for the teenagers and adults. Alex and Natalee Falk of Salt Lake, young singerssongwriters will also showcase their vocal talents as part of the event. At dusk, activities begin to wind down with the Ceremony of Hope. The track is encircled with luminaria - each bearing the name of someone who has battled bat-tled cancer. Teams then walk through the night. As the sun comes up, breakfast break-fast will be served. Around 8 a.m. an awards ceremony will held honoring donors, volunteers and participants. Awards will be given for best camp site and team that has logged the most time on the track. With that, the event comes to a close. The relay is not sponsored, which means teams do not earn money based on how much walking walk-ing or running they do. Instead, a registration fee is required for each team, and participants ask for donations from the community. These two combine to provide the funds that help support the fight against cancer. The volunteers volun-teers involved are the ones that help bring the fundraiser to life. Twenty volunteers have participated participat-ed so far. "This is an event staffed solely of volunteers," says Campbell. "The volunteers are the ones that really do the legwork." Campbell notes that there is not a person that has not been affected by cancer in one way or another. Although it might not be a personal person-al relationship, a best ' friend's loved one might be suffering with the disease, which affects us simply because we care for that friend. As a person who has supported a victim of cancer, Campbell has nothing but high praise for the patients and the people who aid them during their struggle. She considers these people the true heroes. "Cancer survivors are simply amazing, and caregivers are amazing. amaz-ing. The survivors - just their zest, their zeal for life, their courage, they're just not quitters. These people just know how to focus on what is important." The American Cancer Society's Park City Relay For Life 2004 Kick-Off will be held Saturday, April 17 from 3-5 p.m. at Miners Hospital, 1354 Park Ave. The American Cancer Society's Park City Relay For Life will be held June 25 at 5 p. m. through June 26 at 9 a.m. For more information about either event, call Janice Campbell at 615-8355.
