Show WedThursFri, November 26-28, 2003 The Park Record C-5 Banana Slug returns to EC Producing music that kids love as well as earth-friendly messages, mes-sages, the Banana Slug String Band performs at The Eccles Center on Saturday, Dec. 13. Kids and grown-ups can boogie on down to tunes about everything every-thing from forest fires to moose. Sluggin' it out for the environment, environ-ment, these guys combine music, theater, puppetry and audience participation in ' their show. Performances are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. "Airy" Larry Graff, Doug "Dirt" Greenfield, "Marine" Mark Nolan and "Solar" Steve Van Zandt incorporate everything every-thing from folk to funk and rock to reggae as they entertain kids of all ages. Expect a great mix of guitar, banjo, percussion, harmonica, har-monica, bass and mandolin. With more than 100 original songs, the Slugs have performed at such prestigious events as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival as well as theaters across the country. Last year, Banana Slug String Band sold out both Pillow Theater shows. This year, PCPAF decided to introduce them to the main stage. Rockin' out in the big theater, audiences have even more room to dance and sing along to their favorite Slug tunes. "With zany, eminently singable songs, the Banana Slugs succeed where many conventional convention-al instructors have failed," writes Parenting Magazine. The Santa Cruz Sentinel praised the Slugs as "...rollicking foot-tapping and educational!" These eco-educators and musicians are scientists and naturalists natu-ralists by profession, but entertainers enter-tainers at heart. For the past 17 years, they have been teaching children to care for the earth while rocking out on stage. Nominated for several children's album awards, The Banana Slug String Band won the 1996 Howard Bell Award for Outstanding Outdoor Education.
