If, at the start of the match, you are concerned about the outcome, your performance is sure to be affected. I dont know of many players who do not want to win. There are, however, many players who don't want to lose, sometimes at any cost. Players who are so preoccupied with playing not to lose are the first to "choke," lose their cool, and are the least likely to improve their game. "Tanking" is another sign of allowing allow-ing the score to affect performance giving up before you have actually actual-ly lost. Friday, July 31- GrubsteakMarker (9-0) def. Pac'ers (3-4) 17-12; by Warren Head tennis professional, PC To be mentally tough on the court, and enjoy the game more, follow fol-low these steps: 1. No matter how far you are behind in a match, the only way you can win is to get the next point. 2. No matter how far you are ahead, the only way you can win is to get the next point. 3. The winner you just hit, or the point you just blew, does not guarantee guar-antee the outcome of the next point. 4. If you think too far ahead -"One more game and I win the set." - you may be hurting your game. 5. Play to the best of your ability (and intensity), point by point. 6. Enjoy the ride, learning from mistakes without making them bag de France bicycle race on Sunday. Relish and draw energy from your good shots; dont be afraid to express your pleasure (in a sportsmanlike sports-manlike way, of course). 8. Remember that Tennis is a game; there are no fatalities. Try not to fall into the trap of viewing all wins as good, and all losses as bad. Depending on the quality of your performance, some wins may hurt your game. Similarly, there are many good losses loss-es that, with the correct mindset, may turn you into a better player. With the right attitude and effort, the wins (and losses) will take care of themselves. with a 48th-place finish this year. Jemison did not e-mail after completion com-pletion of the race but he had the following to say after the last time .trial and a 242-kilometer stage. 52-kilometer time trial, Marty Jemison, 34th, 6:45 (1:10:37) behind Jan Ullrich at 1:03:52 (his average was 48.851). That's all I have to say ... Oh, Paris demain! 242, kilometers today ii plus; a five-kilometer neutral, i -Long-long-long ... 46.8 kph average. The last climb of the tour was at km 218 ... ouch! Yea! I felt good all day, right up until about 15 kms to go, then I started to become very tiredm the legs were OK but the fatigue was setting into my head. After the stage we had to go to "Velo-Club" "Velo-Club" (live French TV). I thought I was going to fall asleep with the cameras on me ... Luckily the hotel was only 1 km from the finish. Tomorrow is the time trial ... 50 kms. To lose or gain two minutes would do nothing for my general classification. Tomorrow I will start with no stress and just push my body up to threshold over time. Riding without pressure often has better results. If the engine is good I will put in a good time. Sunday, ride to Paris after a TGV train ride in the morning. Today is the first day that I can hardly hold my eyes open after a stage. My body will be tired after this race, I thank it though for being sooo strong throughout the TDK Dinner Wednesday through Sunday starting at 6.00 RM. Reservations suggested. . 649-7770 DEER VALLEY.
