Logan Steves fall again to faster and stronger All Blackies Saturday at City Park by Dave Fields OF THE RECORD STAFF A perfect day for rugby in City Park was made a little better by the Logan Steves who had the not-so-lucky privilege privi-lege of facing the All Blackies on Saturday. As in the previous meeting between the two teams, the All Blackies beat the Steves using a team approach rather than individual performances. Saturday's game was the last of the spring season for the All Blackies who will resume play in the fall. The final score was 17-10 for the All Blackies but it was the Steves who scored first. The Steves worked their way down the right side of the field and scored the first try, taking a 5-0 lead. The conversion conver-sion kick fell far short of the uprights and the score stayed at 5-0 Then it was Charmelle Anderson's turn to show why she is one of the team's fastest runners, even with an injured knee that would eventually take her out of the game. Anderson broke loose near midfield and dusted several flailing Steves as she ran in for the try. Justine McBride kicked the conversion for an additional two points, giving the All Blackies the lead, 7-5. Cindy Sugden lit up the second half with an amazing score from the hooker position. The hooker is the most difficult diffi-cult position on the pitch and it is very difficult to score from, but Sugden powered pow-ered through to give the All Blackies a 12-5 lead. Logan answered with a try of their own but again missed the kick, leaving them down, 12-10. Sisters Ann and Susan Summers had a sibling score to finish off the Steves, 17-10. "Even though we were missing a few of our key players, we still had a strong side. ..it was a total team effort," Sugden said during the post-game party. Many thanks go out to coach Ben Knudsen from all of the Blackies for his efforts during the spring season. The team would also like to thank Nickles for supplying the team and fans with game food. The All Blackies' fall practices will begin in August. The games begin in September and run through November. Muckers lose 63-30 to Wasatch Athletic by Brian La Freniere MUCKERS TEAM PLAYER What a difference a week makes. After a strong showing at last weekends week-ends 'Love of the Game,' the Park City Muckers traveled to Salt Lake City to face Wasatch Athletic Club and went down in flames, 63-30. On a hot and sunny day, the Muckers appeared confident before the match. That confidence quickly turned to dismay as the young and fit Wasatch team scored on the opening movement. Park City was down 7-0. That was as close as the Muckers would get as poor tackling would haunt Park City throughout the day. Wasatch would score four more tries in the first half, converting each, to take a commanding lead 35-0. Mucker Jack Walzer would finally break through scoring scor-ing a late-half try with Jeff Stack converting. convert-ing. Stack would later add a penalty kick for a 35-10 score at the break. To add salt to the gaping Mucker wounds, Wasatch brought on six fresh players at half-time. Meanwhile Park City had five Players from last week sitting out due to injury. It would not matter as Wasatch dominated possession and Park City was on the defensive all day long.' On many occasions the Muckers would make a good play, only to realize that it was not enough, as the youngsters continually contin-ually attacked. The final score was 17-10. the fact that in the scrum, Wasatch couldn't budge the Muckers. Eric Norgate was able to run the ball off the back of one scrum and touch the ball down for the score, converted by Stack. But every time Park City scored, Wasatch countered and never let the Muckers get close. Stack would add two more penalty kicks late in the half, for six points. Near the end of the match Mucker forward Gary Wolforth stripped the ball near the try-line and with much determination. pushed his way over the line for the score, as the Mucker forwards were starting to wear on the opposition. Stack converted. But Wasatch look the ensuing kick-off back for the game-ending score and sent the Muckers back to work with some questions to address. Next Saturday Park City travels to Logan to face the Northern Utah Mud Ducks. Their goal will be to improve and rebound from this disaster. Mtn.
