Bleyle OF THE RECORD STAFF In typical Park City style, residents and businesses are coming out in full force to support local realtor and long-time Parkite, Mardi Hudson. Friends and co-workers of Hudson are holding a fundraiser to help defray hospital bills incurred when she was seriously injured in a fall last July 4. Hudson has since successfully undergone extensive surgery at the University of Utah Medical Center for a contusion to the cervical spine. Although a full recovery is expected, her condition was complicated by a previous injury, so rehabilitation is expected to be long, trying, and expensive. And Hudson, unfortunately, does not have health insurance. In tribute to her 25 years of dedication to the town, the Park City Board of Realtors has coordinated a dinner in City Park to be held on Thursday, Sept. 12. According to Sharon Woodbury, office manager for the Board of Realtors, fundraiser participants will receive dinner catered by Dan's, Smith's and Albertsons, plus one glass of beer for their $10 donations. Additionally, Woodbury said there will be a softball game starting at 4:00 where participants will be allowed to bat for a $1 donation. Dinner will be served at 5:00, with a $5 per ticket raffle going on throughout the evening. But fundraising efforts are beginning already with a silent auction offering everything from hot air balloon rides, dinner for eight at the Riverhorse, or two nights in Moab, to 18 holes of golf at a local course. Woodbury said silent auction bids are being accepted at the Board of Realtor's office, located at 1912 Sidewinder Drive. Raffle items include lunches and dinners, movie passes, ski tuning, newspaper ad space, hair cuts, gift certificates from the Main Street Merchants, and Egyptian Theatre tickets. Hudson, Woodbury added, has been a longstanding long-standing supporter of the Egyptian, and even appeared in productions during the '80's. Hudson came to Park City in 1971 from Minnesota, and taught skiing for many years. In 1975, she started selling real estate for Skyline Real Estate, run by Harry Reed, and became an expert on Old Town and the mining community. According to Woodbury, Hudson has always been physically active, and enjoys jogging and tennis. Citing her dedication to community service, Woodbury mentioned Hudson's continuing support of underprivileged children through the basketball camp she runs with her husband, former NBA star Lou Hudson. Woodbury further commented she hopes Thursday's fundraiser can help cover some of the thousands of dollars in hospital bills, if only to return to Hudson a small amount of the dedication she has shown to Park City. For more information on tickets, or how to bid on silent auction items, please call Sharon Woodbury at the Board of Realtors at 649-4112.
