Project (goodwill Trees help local angels in need by LISAANTONUCCI Record staff writer Many people feel it is the angels who come from above, giving help and guidance to those in need. But this Christmas, it is your chance to play angel and help those less fortunate through several local Angel Tree programs. The Fellowship Angel Tree, a program designed to help children of prisoners in Utah, delivers gifts on behalf of the incarcerated parent. The program is nationwide, and in Utah alone, about 1,200 children were touched by the program in 1994. Last year, over 250 gifts including clothing and toys were collected in the Park City area meeting the needs of local children. Also because of the generous support by the community, the Angel Tree program was able to support the Sub-for-Santa program and the Fourth Street Viaduct outreach for homeless children. The angels will have information about what he or she may need including toys wanted and clothing sizes. Angels will be available through Dec. 1 5 at Bank One branches located at 614 Main St. and 1650 Park Ave., First Security Bank at 1400 Kearns Blvd., Payless Drug Store at 950 Ironhorse Dr., 7-Eleven Food Stores located at 1723 Sidewinder Dr. and 1815 Park West Dr., Mt. Vinyard Christian Fellowship at 1401 E. Kearns and the Carden Academy at 3120 Pinebrook Rd. Gifts should be returned unwrapped to any of the listed locations. Also, boxes will be at these locations for other donated non-perishable foods and used clothing. cloth-ing. For more information, call Debbie Strong at 649-0547. 649-0547. KUTV 2 News and the Salvation Army are also sponsoring an Angel Tree for needy children and seniors in our community. Qualified children and senior citizens have listed their wants and needs to be used as a guideline although all gifts are appreciated. To participate, select an "angel from a tree located in the credit department at any ZCMI. Information about your angel (first name, age, sex, size, wants and needs) is listed on the ornament. ZCMI is offering ten-percent ten-percent discount coupons for Angel Tree purchases, plus free gift wrapping for those gifts purchased at the store. Return wrapped gifts to the Angel Tree within a week, no later than Saturday, Dec. 1 6. for more information infor-mation call 800-667-3896 or 973-5480 in Salt Lake City. Make Pets Part of the Season For those interested in helping needy animals. Summit County Friends of the Animals will be helping help-ing Santa at the Factory Outlet Stores at Park City. They will be offering photos with the red-suited wonder won-der for $3, and all proceeds will benefit the group. For the next two weekends, Santa will be visiting children in the Levi's Outlet store from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-10 and Dec. 16-17. This is the second year the Factory Stores and Friends of the Animals have joined forces with Santa Claus to raise money for the non-profit organization. For more information call Summit County Friends of the Animals at 647-3733. Also for the animals, Salt Lake County Animal Services is inviting everyone to celebrate Christmas with the animals Saturday, Dec. 16 during their annual open house. People are invited to bring gifts for the animals and the county suggests towels, blankets, kitty litter, dog and cat treats, toys, canned puppy and kitten food and dry pet food. Money donations are welcome but the best gift of all will be a new home for each and every animal. All animals adopted on or before Dec. 20 will be spayed and neutered and will go home before Christmas. Those adopted after the 20th can be picked up Dec. 26. A gift certificate, collar, ID tag and stocking stock-ing filled with treats will be sent home for under the tree. A wrap around mural will be displayed in the shelter shel-ter for everyone to draw or write a Christmas wish for the animals. The open house will be from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the shelter located at 5 1 1 West 3900 South. Shepard joined the Radisson this past month bringing his philosophy of simplicity and elegance to the hotel. Restaurant manager Leanne Duggan said their goal in creating cre-ating the new menu is to entice the local clientele. "We want locals to see our restaurant as a place to go out to eat any night of the week. Our menu is very affordable, afford-able, and you get a great value for the price," said Duggan. Duggan explained that the old menu was limited, while the new offerings are more unique and cover a wide variety vari-ety of tastes. New on the menu are a Mediterranean vegetable veg-etable casserole, mussels marinara, seafood tortellini, garlic gar-lic steak, veal marsala and variety of seafood dishes including poached salmon and Alaskan king crab legs. "With our new menu and new staff, we think this will be a great, fun place for locals to come," said Duggan. Starstream... Week of Dec. 7 - Dec. 1 3 by Lynda Ray ARIES (March 21 April 19) Your strong motivation to get ahead loses some steam while you deal with some emotional problems on Friday & Saturday. .(It's a little bard to focus on professional success when someone in your personal life is about to dissolve into tears.) On Monday you'll switch back to making plans to conquer the business world when Mercury (the Idea Planet) moves into your career house. And since you're still enjoying enjoy-ing the benefits of good luck in travel & , exploration, the entire scenario could be iaking place on a Caribbean beach between . iscuba dives. TAURUS (April 20 - May 20) with the Moon in the domestic sign of ancer on Friday & Saturday, you're Jnc lined to spend your time at home. However, you'd like to have someone there with you (preferably someone who loves to "cook for you & give you neck rubs). You Jtren't a hermit - you just want to be in comfortable surroundings. Your interests this week include things that bring you knowledge or expose you to new & differ- ; ent philosophies. So, if you're hooked up to a satellite dish, you can access the world ; & you won't have to leave the sofa. GEMINI (May 21 June 20) You might still be having some problems deciding what it is you really want But , now that Saturn (the business planet) is moving forward again in your solar 10th house of career, at least you're looking to the future instead of past failures. (Of course, for you, the problem isn't so much MAKING a decision as sticking to it.) To give you even more interest in success," your Quick-Thinking ruler Mercury moves into the ambitious sign of Capricorn on Monday. You're likely to become a little ' shrewder &. a little more practical, but not necessarily any more decisive. CANCER (June 21 July 22) The Moon in your sign on Friday & Saturday helps you to overcome the frightening fright-ening feeling of being a little overwhelmed with life in general right now. The holidays ; are looming & you probably have mixed , feelings about this. As a sentimental & . family-oriented sign, you love these days v of togetherness. As one of the most emotional emo-tional signs, you are strongly affected by " ! the crass commercialism & insensitivity , that surrounds you when you attempt to battle the crowds & do some shopping. Possible solutions? I) Order by catalog 2) Give (on someone's behalf) to a charity 3) ;; Call your Mom & beg her to do your shop- ping for you. LEO (July 23 August 22) Being an incurable Fool for Love, you're still feeling happy about the group of planets plan-ets that occupy your solar 5th house of romance & creativity this week. You'll be glad to hear the Emotive Moon moves into your sign on Sunday making it easy to coordinate matters of the heart with matters of the head. (You'll still be wearing your Heart on Your Sleeve, but you'll also be able to get some actual work done.) The remainder of the week is good for making money. It's almost the holidays. With the way you shop, you're going to need it VIRGO (Aug. 23 Sept 22) You may be pulled in several directions simultaneously this week (& especially on Friday & Saturday). Everyone wants your attention. Your friends are making you feel a little guilty that you've been neglecting them. Your home requires your attention. Your love affair has recently heated up & you'd prefer to indulge in a little romance & passion. You're particularly imaginative right now, I think you can find a way to accomplish a multitude of obligations & still manage to enjoy your love affair. And if the dirty dishes pile up, hide them in the oven & serve ready-made cookies on paper . plates. LIBRA (Sept 23 Oct. 22) You won't be able to count on things run-' ning smoothly at home on Friday & Saturday no matter how charming & diplo-matic diplo-matic you think you're being. Some patience is all that is required. The Moon in the "other" romantic & sociable sign of , Leo on Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday is much more compatible to your gracious nature. Your friends will be happy to listen to your chit-chat & you'll be happy to put your career concerns away for the remainder remain-der of the month. It's never easy to make professional progress during the holidays so why should you ruin any great social occasions in the name of success? SCORPIO (Oct 23 Nov. 21) Be careful how you communicate your thoughts on Thursday & Friday. Not everyone every-one understands things as intuitively as you do & you're likely to be misunderstood if you don't present your ideas in a really clear manner. Sunday is good for emotional emotion-al rapport & intimate encounters 2 of your favorite things. The remainder of the week emphasizes the rational & financial part of life. Creative projects are valuable. You're not very confident about it now, but your work is good. Don't sell it cheap. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec 21) You continue to experience good luck, but in spite of this you're likely to have a spell of worrying about money or material security secu-rity over the weekend. This extended period peri-od of domestic responsibilities you've been dealing with for almost 2 years does put a damper on your free-spirited exploration of the world. Monday & Tuesday put you back in an optimistic frame of mind. When all is said & done, you have to admit you've never really met a cloud without a silver lining, have you? CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 -Jan. 19) Be prepared to feel a little blue on Friday & Saturday. You're never quite as in control con-trol of your emotions as you feel you should be when the Moon moves through the opposite sign of Sensitive Cancer. These moody periods are so impractical, ' aren't they? Beginning Monday things are significantly in your favor as you're blessed with the charm of Venus, the energy ener-gy of Mars, & the intelligence of Mercury all at the same time. Is it possible to be i popular AND successful? This is your chance to give it a shot. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 Feb. 18) You may get caught up in the petty details of life on Friday & Saturday. (One of your least favorite things. "Petty" is just not in your personal vocabulary.) Your focus switches to relationships for the remainder of the week. You'll need to take a break from trying to be productive & spend a little lit-tle time in quiet introspection about your need for love & your ability to give love. (But then again, "Need" is also not an appealing concept to you independent types, so maybe I should refer to it as "desire".) PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20) You are such a sentimental sweetheart sometimes & the holidays always empha-' size that side of you. While others are cursing curs-ing the traffic & the congested stores, you're delighted by the decorations & pretty pret-ty lights. Your innate sympathy for the downtrodden stimulates your altruistic tendencies ten-dencies this week. It's a good year to skip the traditional gifts & donate time, money, or last year's Gucci loafers to some worthwhile worth-while causes. (Okay. You don't all have Gucci loafers. The rest of you can donate one of your rare signed photographs of a famous musician.) ; .
