Playing at home against the 2A Cowboys from Grantsville, the Miners' streaky effort allowed the visitors to escape with an easy win. Trailing by one after a quarter 12-1 12-1 1, and two at the half 25-23, Park City scored just three points in the third quarter to let Grantsville take a 10-point lead into the final stanza. Sophomore center David Jensen led the Miners with 11 points despite picking up four fouls. Senior guard Scott Verrone scored 10 to be the only other Park City player in double figures. Chason Memmont scored nine, six in the first quarter and five in the fourth, but only two over the second and third. David Behnke, who fouled out in the final minute of the game, scored eight points in a continued strong season. John Limpert and Ike Lund each had a pair, while Troy Jewkes and Brian Krall, who had two points and one point respectively, provided all the scoring in the fateful third quarter. Friday night, Dec. 9, the Miners travelled to West High School in Salt Lake City with little serious hope of challenging the Panthers. But instead, Park City came out hard and scored the first six points of the game. The Miners kept West off the board for the first three minutes of the game, but then let two quick turnovers translate into Panther three-pointers. With West's second trey, at 4:18 of the first quarter, the host side took a lead they would never relinquish. Another quick turnover gave the Panthers their 10th unanswered point and made the score 10-6. They pulled away to a 33-point win, 84-51. Park City played decent basketball, but again fell prey to a streaky work ethic. The Miner of Jensen GOLDENER HIRSCH Enjoy a taste of Austria in the heart of Deer Valley. ' When they did work hard, tfte effort paid off. In one instance, Verrone drove the lane and dished off to Jensen who went up and was fouled. With as immobile a center as the Panthers had, it was4a vulnerability the Miners could have exploited more. That same play later put Jensen at the line for a potential three-point three-point play when his lay-up fell, and though the free throw stayed outfit should have been a sign for Park City. A similar play opened the second quarter when Memmdht took an inbound pass under fhe Panther basket and went straight up with the shot. The basket counted and Memmont went to the line. Again, the free throw wjis unsuccessful, but it was a play that showed what the Miners are capable of when they put in the effort. 1 Statistically, Jensen again Ted Park City, scoring 14. Memmont and Behnke were also in double figures with 11 and 10 each. LuVid with eight, and Verrone and Tom Gross with four apiece rounded out the Miner scoring. r; continued on G5 NACHO MAMA'S Come experience the unique local atmosphere atmos-phere at Nacho Mama's.
