Show The Park Record Section B Thursday, October 22, 1992 D Page B3 Runners show true grit on hilly course Park City High School cross country held a successful invitational meet at the Park City Municipal Golf Course on Tues. Oct. 13, hosting five teams. Park City women placed second to Wasatch, but the Park City men's team was victorious at the local meet The hilly, 3.4 mile course made a challenging event for the teams who are used to slightly shorter distances, although spectators and . runners found the setting and the weather beautiful and the race easy for spectators to follow. "Well, it will make Region seem easier," says Coach Michelle Taylor, with apologies to the team from her and Coach Scott Taylor for the extra .4 miles whose surprising presence was sorely noticed by racers. Park City's J.J. Kreiger pounded the hills to once again bring in a first place finish for her team with a long-winded 25:55. New team member Vanessa Burns was the second Park City woman to finish the difficult course, in 26:46, for a fourth place overall finish. Tav Streit and Matt Thomson tracked a St. Joseph (A-l) runner the entire race. Streit challenged for the lead with a 50-yard sprint to the finish, but came in just short of the tape with 20:49, Thomson close behind in third with 21:04. Although the Wasatch team is a 1-A school, Park City women beat them earlier in the season. This time, injuries may have been holding the Park City women back according to Coach Michelle Taylor. Speculating that it may be because of the difficult hills on the course, Taylor says some of the women may be experiencing overuse injuries. "Now we're just trying to keep all the kids injury- free," says Taylor, and help runners who have injuries recuperate as quickly as possible in preparation for the regional meet, at North Sanpete in Mt. Pleasant on Oct 21. The Regional course, although not as difficult as Park City's, is not easy according to Coach Taylor, and not as easy for spectators to cheer runners along. The 3.1 mile course, through sheep pastures and fields, with nearly one mile of long, though gradual uphill near the end of the race, then finishing on the school track, will surely be a test for Park City runners. Taylor says Park City runners have been training on a variety of terrain and on hills and should be ready for the meet r 4 rt if f J 'J Notice to Contractors Summit County Public Works Department will be accepting bids for a pole type storage building until 1:15 pm on October 26, 1992.
