More than 40 men and women from the U.S. alpine A, B and C teams are present at the camp, which runs through mid-November. The women's team will open the 1991 alpine World Cup season Dec. 1-2 in Val Zoldana, Italy. The men, who raced in early August in New Zealand, will resume their schedule Dec. , 2 in Valloire, France. The season concludes March 20-24 at Waterville Valley, N.H., where $100,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. award-ed. The U.S. team is hoping to improve im-prove on last winter's results. Last season, the American racers more than doubled their World Cup points from the previous season despite the loss of 1989 World Cup champion Tamara McKinney, who broke her leg six weeks before the season. In spite of the loss, the women's team had strong results. Dian Roffe, of Isle LaMotte, Vt., was second in the season's first race and third in another event, and finished 10th overall. Kristi Terzian of Salt Lake City scored points in a U.S. women's team record 17 World Cup races. Seven other U.S. women also scored World Cup points. A.J. Kitt of Rochester, N.Y. will lead the men's team this winter. Kitt started last season ranked 74th in downhill, but was fourth and sixth in two races and finished the winter as the world's eighth-ranked downhiller. Six other U.S. men also scored points a year ago. Last week the athletes took part in sports medicine testing. Their peripheral vision, depth perception and coordinaton was tested. They also underwent biomechanieal analysis and blood lactate tests aim ed at analyzing conditioning and performance. "It's an excellent sports medicine program," said Paul Major, U.S. women's head coach. "We're looking look-ing to get some immediate feedback from the vision and the lactate testing."
