The team hopes to better last year's record; (below) Sophomore Amber Forsythe launches a shot, while teammates I to r I Tracy Porter, Krysti Peretti and Julie Boender look on. Park City High School girls basketball coach Sheila Davis hopes this is the year of the super sophs. When the Miners open their season Nov. 15, five sophomores could be in the starting line-up. And most of the top subs are sophomores, too. "As soon as they get to be seniors we'll be putting out a pretty good team," Davis says. Not that this year is unimportant. The Miners hope to better the 1-14 record of last year's team. "We're a lot younger but I think we can hold our own," Davis says. "I think it'll be comparable to last year." Sophomore Amber Forsythe a starting guard last year returns this season to lead the Miners. A solid ballhander and an accurate shooter, Forsythe will shift between the forward and guard positions this season. She should be Park City's top offensive player. "We're glad to have Amber back," Davis says. "We're probably going to be very dependent on her this year." Sophomore Amy Spradling will start at center in the Miners' opener, and sophomore Karen Kibbe will start at forward. The two other probable starters for Park City are sophomore guards Tracy Porter and Heather Miller. Sophomore forwards Julie Boender and Wysti Woolfe should also see action, as will freshman Jamie Cottis. Stephanie Stout and Holly Martinez Mar-tinez are the only two seniors on this 1 i . 1 unmmmmmuy n 1 If S v i v ?i ' 'I 1 a .. , V. ft, f ftS f "A - x Hi : ' J I ; U'fX, w : . ft I't I. i - a "- ' f-: - year's team. According to Davis, the team has been practicing well. "The girls are working hard; they want to com pete," she says. "There's a lot of team spirit this year, which will help out a lot." The Miners open Nov. 15 at home, Park Gity selected to host World Cup mountain bike races next July with a region match-up against Grantsville. The junior varsity game starts at 5:15 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m. The National Off-Road Bicycle Association (NORBA) has selected Park City as one of three sites for 1991 World Cup mountain bike races. The Park City event will take place July 27-28, and will be part of the 1991 NORBA National Championship Champion-ship Series. The two additional sites selected for World Cup races are Traverse City, Mich., and Mammoth Lakes, Calif. The 1991 NORBA National Cham pionship Series is comprised of seven races in the United States. The three World Cup races count in both the national championship standings and in the standings in the seven-event seven-event World Cup series. The World Cup series also includes events in Europe. The NORBA National Championship Champion-ship Series will determine the national na-tional mountain bike champions, as well as the United States National Mountain Bike Team, which will compete in the world championships next year in Lucca, Italy. Last July, Park City hosted one of eight NORBA Point Series races. About 500 competitors from across the United States including a record field of pro riders raced on the Park City course, located in TelemarkPark.
