I J 1 ! nh ! t 0 j I I I WW,, , -. j jj by RON GEORG Record staff writer It's appropriate that Rafael Colon Castanera and Richard Scott are being called the temporary producing and business directors of Park City Productions with the theater company's history of turnover for managerial positions, the jobs have rarely been more than temporary. However, both Scott and Castanera are ready to fill the positions posi-tions on a more permanent basis should their formula for success prove viable. The first test will be Sept. 29 at 8 p.m., at the Egyptian Egyp-tian Theatre with the opening of "Sweet Charity," the first show of the 198990 season. Both men have had a long history with the theater, and they have participated both directing and acting in some of PCP's biggest recent hits. With a cast including Park City favorites like Curt Graf, Tricia McDonald, Stephen D. Kerr, and Steve Phillips, there is enough of talent involved in "Sweet Charity" to make success a safe bet. Castanera, who is directing, choreographing, and designing the show, says he wants to be able to give something to the people who are involved with the production. "We want to make things go smoothly; as producing director I am here to supervise the artistic ar-tistic quality of the theater," said Castanera. That quality Castanera talks about isn't limited to the final outcome out-come of a production, though it will certainly affect the show's -value. "One of my main concerns is that we surround the actor with positive influence," said Castanera. "We don't want actors thinking about whether the costumes will be ready for first dress. Being onstage is such a vulnerable experience; we want to be able to say to the actor, 'You don't have to worry just relax and do your job.' Productions which go smooth are not last minute." see CHARITY on page C2 Curt Graf and Elizabeth Moore are featured in Park City Performance's season opener, "Sweet Charity." CpMc's picks Music Mark O'Conner With his fourth album, On The Mark, ac-coustic ac-coustic musician Mark O'Conner adds more definition to his technically spectacular sound. Cinema Sea of Love Al Pacino's latest movie follows a formula reminiscent of Clint Eastwood's Tightrope, but through amazing acting, powerful direction, and a stunning surprise, the film establishes its own frightening tone. Video Heathers In case you missed it at last year's United States Film Festival, Heathers has come to video. It is an unusual, dark comedy which uses fantastic hyperbole to describe teen angst. |
