However, we ask that those letters let-ters adhere to the following guidelines: They should be submitted to The Newspaper office at 419 Main Street, or received in the mail (P.O. Box 738), no later than noon Tuesday. They must be signed. They must not contain libelous libel-ous material. We reserve the right to edit letters let-ters if they are too long for the space available, or if they contain statements which we consider unnecessarily offensive or obscene. A dog's best friend? Editor: Yes we need to control the problem of loose dogs, but not at the expense of those people who have diligently tried to obey the laws by having their dogs licensed, spayed, neutered, given their shots and have built fences to attempt to keep their dogs corraled. But dogs being dogs, do get loose at times. These dogs and their owners certainly should be given the benefit of the doubt, and an attempt should be made to contact the owner to resolve the problem without a federal case being made of the situation. But the case in point, I believe, is whether or not anyone can go onto private property to deliberately pick up a dog. We now have a dbg catcher who, according ac-cording to reliable sources, only picks up dogs who are friendly, and will allow him to approach them. Recently he entered a yard in Park Meadows and picked up a dog who was in his own yard playing with other dogs most of which were unlicensed. His answer to the question, "Why my dog?" was, "I only pick up friendly ones who will come to me." Do we really need someone with this attitude to control our dogs? Don't we need someone to do this job who has some compassion for animals and people who love them. Dorothy Cunningham B. Lewis A good idea, Mr. Landenberger Editor: Dear Mr. Landenberger: This letter is in response to your recent letter to the editor of the Park City News. Park City has been working quite actively for the past two years to develop an extensive trail system throughout the city. A major com ponent of the recently adopted Parks Master Plan is a Trails Master Plan. The trail system is intended to be multipurpose, accommodating bicycles and pedestrains or horses and hikers in the summer and cross-country skiers and pedestrians in the winter. The City Planning Department is continually working with new projects as they apply for approval to assure necessary trail connections through private lands. There are several city-owned city-owned parcels which have plans for segments of the trail system. Finally, there are several sections of the trail system which are in various stages of completion. Rather than get into a lengthy written writ-ten explanation in this letter, I invite you to come into the Planning Department Depart-ment offices so I can show you what we are doing. I would very much appreciate ap-preciate any comments, questions or suggestions you might have. I also would encourage you to attend the regularly scheduled meetings of the Park City Recreation Advisory Board. This is a group of citizens interested in Park City's recreation. They were tremendously helpful in developing Park City's Recreation Master Plan. Now we all have the challenge of getting get-ting it implemented. Thank you for your letter in the paper. Please contact me at 649-6714 to arrange a time when we can get together. I look forward to our meeting. Sincerely yours, Jennefer W. Harrington IPqpMcce IEepnirtt Robert P. Morris of Morn-ingstar Morn-ingstar Drive reported the theft of his hot tub's heating and circulating unit sometime between midnight Saturday, Nov. 20 and 8 p.m. Sunday. Several other accoutrements ac-coutrements stolen brought the value of the heist to nearly $2,000. The parts were cut loose with a hacksaw and then dragged through bushes and down a hill to where the unknown suspects loaded them in their vehicle. In other incidents: Jake C. Larimore of Park City was roughed up in a scuffle after a car he was riding in was nearly involved in an accident with that of his assailant's. Larimore was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Lane Jackson of Park City on Nov. 28. While in the Holiday Village Mall parking lot, they just missed colliding with another vehicle. The other driver followed them to a spot in front of Wolfe's Sporting Goods where he exited his vehicle and confronted Larimore. Tempers flared and Larimore was struck twice in the chin. The suspect left before police were summoned. In a similar incident, Frederick Braman of Emigration Canyon was taken into custody in the early morning hours of Nov. 28. Officers James Allen and Cliff Koker observed Braman arguing with a female on Main Street. After more yelling, Braman was observed hitting the female several times as she ran away. He was arrested and booked for disorderly . con: duct, as the female chose not to press charges. -,... Shane Myers of Park City reported being bitten by a gold dog on Main Street the evening of Nov. 24. Myers said he was holding a cookie which the dog wanted. Myers suffered a shallow bite on his right leg. There were several petty pet-ty thefts reported in town over the last few days, among them : Sweetwater Construction reported 50 towels, a 50 lb. box of soap, a fire extinguisher and a Toro snowblower gone. Roger Williams of Solona Beach, California had a portable color TV and a wooden director's direc-tor's chair stolen from his unoccupied Pay Day condo. Patsy M. Graddick of Park City had her billfold containing con-taining various credit cards and about $400 in cash stolen from her car parked in the resort parking lot. Several pairs of skis were reported stolen from different locations throughout town the last week of November as well. Parkite Kirsten Meyer's red 1970 Volkswagen suffered suf-fered approximately $250 worth of body damage to the front truck lid while parked in front of Main Street Hardware Hard-ware when a hit and run driver did his dirty deed on Nov. 23. Vandals took down about eight feet worth of Burnis Watts' white picket fence when they drove a vehicle through it in the early morning mor-ning hours of Nov. 25. Damage was estimated at $150. An unknown vandal smashed the front and rear windshield of Parkite St. Clair Nelson's car in the 1300 block of Park Avenue late Nov. 26 or early Nov. 27. Damage totaled $450. Finally, Jane Schulman of 502 Park Ave. wishes that the parishioners of St. Luke's Church would park somewhere besides the space she pays to have snow removed from. Schulman called the police department Sunday, Nov. 28. When officers of-ficers arrived, they were met by both Schulman and St. Luke's pastor. Schulman complained of cars being in her space frequently. She said the preacher was sympathetic sym-pathetic but churchgoers weren't. It became clear, however, that Schulman 's property boundary could not be readily identified. The officers of-ficers suggested that Schulman clearly identify her parking lot and post "No Parking" signs. It was also suggested that the St. Luke's pastor make a plea from the pulpit asking his congregation to avoid parking in the disputed area. yXXXXX"XXXXXK'J. .
