Show COMPLETE TEXT OF PROPOSITION NO. 2 COMPENSATION AND EXPENSES FOR LEGISLATORS A JOINT RESOLUTION PROPOSING TO AMEND ARTICLE VI, SECTION 9 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF UTAH; RELATING TO COMPENSATION OF LEGISLATORS; LEG-ISLATORS; PROVIDING FOR A CITIZENS' SALARY COMMISSION APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR TO MAKE SALARY RECOMMENDATIONS; PROVIDING FOR THE LEGISLATURE TO ACCEPT, REJECT OR LOWER THE RECOMMENDED SALARY; PROVIDING FOR REIMBURSEMENT RE-IMBURSEMENT OF LEGISLATORS' EXPENSES BY LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Be it resolved by the Legislature of the State of Utah, two-thirds two-thirds of all members elected to each of the two houses voting in favor thereof: Section 1. It is proposed to amend Article VI, Sec. 9 of the Constitution of the State of Utah to read: Sec. 9. The mcmbcro of the Legislature shall not increase the salaries of its members on its own initiative, but shall provide by law for the appointment by the Governor of a citizens' salary commission to make recommendations recom-mendations concerning the salaries of members of ths Legislature. Upon submission of the commission's recommendations, recom-mendations, the Legislature shall by law accept, reject or lower the salary but may not, in any event, increase ths recommendation. The Legislature shall provide by law for the expenses of its members. Until salaries and expenses enacted as authorized by this section become effective members of the Legislature shall receive compensation of $25 per diem while actually in session, expenses of $15 per diem while actually in session, and mileage as provided by law. Section 2. The Lieutenant Governor is directed to submit this proposed amendment to the electors of the State of Utah at the next general election in the manner provided by law. Section 3. Article VI, Sec. 9, Constitution of Utah, if approved by the voters, shall take effect January 1, 1983. 1 16- |
