North Ogden wasn't so easy to get by, however. The Park City Blue Devils, an under-13 boys soccer team coached by Kathy Benner reached the semifinal round of the American Youth Soccer Association tournament in Layton before being knocked out by a team from North Ogden. After winning their first game June 5, the Blue Devils ran into trouble last Saturday, Satur-day, losing 4-0. "We were missing about four of our players, and it really made a difference," Benner said later. "They really tried. They just couldn't get it together." In spite of the loss, the season isn't over for some members of the team. Seven representatives of the Blue Devils and seven from Park City's other under-13 team, coached by Bruce Henderson, Hender-son, will enter an all-star tournament on Friday. The team is scheduled to play two games Friday and one Saturday. Results will be printed in next week's Newspaper. Hobie racers flock to Deer Creek It was the largest collection of Hobie Catamarans in Utah since the nationals were held in Bear Lake four years ago. Fifty-seven boats from Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico Mexi-co and Colorado were at Deer Creek Reservoir last weekend for the third annual Sailing Center Regatta, the only Hobie points race to be held in the state this year. According to Cal Bru-baker, Bru-baker, commodore of Hobie Fleet 67, the two-day event ran smoothly, with one major exception: the winds weren't up to their usual standard. "Both days they weren't up to Deer Creek's normal," he said. "We had a lot more shifting than I've ever had there ... It could have been better." Brubaker pointed out that the Sailing Center Regatta has had its share of problems with the weather. "Last year it snowed. This year the wind was mediocre. Next year I hope people will come for the party and the wind will turn out great." The top prize in the 16-foot Hobie Fleet went to Mark Laura, a relative newcomer to catamarans but an old hand at sailing. "He gets up first thing and he's studying the clouds to see how to rig the boat that day," Brubaker laughed. Among the local competitors, competi-tors, Barney Saunders of Park City finished first in the 18B class, while George Painter, another Park City resident, finished third among the 16Cs. Randy Sorenson, Jr., of Summit Park took second place in the 14B class. Park City dentist Rick Barnes started well with a second-place finish (behind Brubaker) in the first race for the 16Bs. However, Barnes Bar-nes was unable to repeat that performance, becoming one of many victims of the peculiar wind conditions. "There were times when everyone on the lake was sit ting still except for one boat in the middle," Brubaker recalled. The event included a barbecue bar-becue dinner at the Prospector Prospec-tor Athletic Club Saturday evening. (See letter to the editor from Barnes on Page A3.) Results of the race are listed in the Scoreboard section. High Rollers upset It's over. The Park City High Rollers, who had not lost a game in league play since the season began last September, Sep-tember, were knocked out of the playoffs Tuesday by Westminster. Playing without their regular goalie and one of the mainstays on the fullback line, the High Rollers were unable to hold out Westminster, Westmin-ster, losing 4-2 at Rosewood Park. After Pat Carley had put Park City ahead 1-0 with a goal early in the game, the roof fell in on the High Rollers. "We were pretty disorganized from the beginning," observed Carl Dollhausen. "Our defense was just nonexistent." Dollhausen, who usually plays either forward or fullback, found himself in goal after Mark Cole failed to show up for the game. Also absent was fullback Herman Stuivenvolt. Westminster scored four straight goals to put the game out of reach. "It was probably the worst game I've ever participated in," Dollhausen said. The loss came after the High Rollers had won the regular-season championship champion-ship with a 15-0-3 record, then defeated the Stray Dogs 4-0 in playoff action Saturday. Satur-day. Scoring for Park City in that game were Donny Martinson Mar-tinson (two goals), Marty Bonordan and Carl Dollhausen. The highlight of that game was Bonordan's goal, a screaming shot from the right side which hit the crossbar and the goalpost simultaneously, then drooped droo-ped into the net behind the baffled Stray Dog goalie. The High Rollers will not resume action until September, Septem-ber, when they enter the Major Division, the top rank of amateur soccer in Utah. "ilF f .
