Show Lutheran Mission welcomes new pastor eI3niDiDll nnw The Newspaper Thursday. Aoril 22. 19S2 Page A5 On Sunday, April 25, the Park City Lutheran Mission will welcome Rev. David Krueger as its new pastor in a special worship service to be held in St. Mary's Catholic Church on Park Avenue. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Immediately Im-mediately following the service, ser-vice, a reception for Paster Krueger and his family will be held in St. Mary's Hall. The public is most cordially invited to both the worship service and the reception. The Park City Lutheran Mission has been holding regular worship services for the past year and a half in St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Park Avenue, under the guidance of the Southwest Synod, LCA, Rev. Stanley Olsen, bishop, and with the support of Zion Lutheran Church and Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Salt lake City. With the calling of Pastor Krueger, the Park City Lutheran Mission takes a giant step forward in its program to provide a full-service full-service Lutheran church in Park City for residents and visitors. Initially, Paster Krueger will be employed half-time by the church. He will be moved to full-time service as rapidly as possible. Paster Krueger will reside in Park City and will be available to the community at all times. Asked about his new relationship with the Lutheran Mission and Park City, the 31-year-old pastor said: "I'm very excited about the potential for ministry in Park City. I look forward to helping wherever I can to make Park City a great place to live." Pastor Krueger comes to Park City after serving as associate pastor of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon, for five-and-a-half years. At St. Timothy he concentrated in the areas of youth ministry and education, as well as carrying out the normal responsibilities of a parish pastor. He is a graduate of Christ Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, where he received the degree of Master of Divinity. In addition, he has had special training in individual, in-dividual, family, and marriage counseling. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Rev. Krueger brings with him his wife, Kathy and two children, Jennifer and Heather. Whadd'ya ICnow? by Rick Brough High School Curriculum Fair Representatives from 24 different career fields were on hand at Park City High School April 14 for the school's first Curriculum Fair. According to Counselor Kent Larsen, students were given the opportunity to preregister for three of the presentations which interested them the most. Among the careers represented were banking, publishing, air-traffic control, dentistry, medicine, optometry, wildlife and forestry. Larsen said more than half of the guest speakers were from the Park City area. "We really appreciate the community support," he said. Many of the speakers brought films and handouts for the students. "We'll probably continue this on an annual basis," he said. "It went over extremely well." The curriculum fair was organized by Larsen and business teacher Michelle Anderson. Student projects on display The Carl Winters Middle School will hold its annual Science and Curriculum Fair today, April 22, beginning with a program at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Included in the program will be brief performances by the school's drama group, combined band, dance group, and sixth grade chorus. Student exhibits will be open to the public beginning at 7:45 p.m. Although the Curriculum Fair shares the same title as that held last week at the high school, it has a different format. Instead of guest speakers, the fair features projects made by the students themselves. KPCW Radio reported that the gas station at the U-224 248 junction had cut its prices by 10 cents a gallon. But Tuesday, the station proprietors reported that this reduction was a mistake. Since then, we have received these other official denials of KPCW stories: Summit County said it has a $50,000 surplus, not a deficit; The State Department of Health said the Coalville Hospital is one of the finest in the nation, and is fully accredited to perform heart transplants; the Park City Council revealed Arlene Loble was appointed City Manager through a clerical error and their actual choice for the job was local music critic Jay Meehan; and the Ed Nurse report concludes the deterioration of Park Avenue was due to a swarm of asphalt-eating beavers who savagely attacked the road during last Thanksgiving weekend. David Fleisher stepped in the other day to announce that a new writer has been signed for the movie adaption of his book on John Singer. The scripter is Michael Weller, who wrote "Ragtime", one of last year's major films. The director and producer is William ("The Exorcist") Friedkin. Fleisher also said Vicki Singer has legally given consent con-sent for the movie. As I walk up Main Street, I listen for the 20th Century-Fox fanfare! A video documentary on ERA that was shown at Park City's U.S. Festival is catching flak from both sides on the issue. "American Film" magazine said the work, "Who Will Protect the Family?" which chronicled the fight over the amendment in North Carolina, has been attacked by supporters of the Equal Rights Amendment. A proponent said the program showed the ERA movement as "bra-burning, castrating females" while opponents were pictured as "pro-family, pro-religion, pro-children". At the same time a New Right spokesman said "The way the conservative point of view came across was ridiculous, narrow-minded, stupid. I don't think the pro-ERA position was adequately represented either, but intellectually they came off a little better." Pro-left or pro-right? If anyone saw the documentary during the festival, drop us a line and let us know what you think. That fumigation smell on Main Street has been coming from the Alamo, which was recently repainted and renovated. The smell didn't bother the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Bureau, which held an opening social there last Friday. Notables attending included Nina Macheel, banker Dean Berrett and County Health Director Frank Singleton. (We would have spotted more folk, but we were watching the party from the sidewalk outside. They kept out the riff-raff, y'know.) Newspaper editor David Hampshire was also there, keeping a close eye on the proceedings. One piece of news at the party came from local daredevil driver, Tina "I Chortle at Death" Lewis. She told friends she had a new red Jaguar and offered to give a ride, at 130 MPH, to advertising man Terry Hogan. Careful Tina. LBJ could get away with that kind of stuff, but you can't.
