But here was Kunkel. entered en-tered in the "B" division of the Locals Only Racquetball Tournament, giving Craig Bergquist all he could handle with that powerful right-handed right-handed kill shot of his. But wait a minute. Isn't "Uncle" Kunkel lelt-lianded? lelt-lianded? Yep. Watching Kunkle try his i right i hand at a game thai he dominates as a lefthander left-hander was one of the attractions attrac-tions at the second annual Locals Only Tournament sponsored by the Prospector Athletic Club last weekend. Sixteen women and 4(i men competed for trophies in seven categories. Bergquist, by the way. won that match and went on to take first place in the men's "B ' division, beating Larry Sheldon in the finals on Sunday. Since the rules allowed a player to enter two divisions, Bergquist also played in the "A" 's, and staggered through seven matches twinning six) on Saturday alone. The w inner of the women's combined "A" and "B" division was Judy de los Cobos, who defeated Dianna Archibold in the finals. Judv A i ' ' " - "'(" -s V" - . survived a scare in her semifinal match, squeaking by Newspaper Editor Bet-tina Bet-tina Moench 15-14, 15-8, after trailing 11-13 in the first1 game. Park Record staffer David Fleisher had to retire from the men's "C" division after pulling ligaments in his right knee during a match with Jim Mayhew. The worst thing about it, Fleisher was heard to say later, was that he was beating Mayhew at the time. He now is nobbling around tow n with a brace on his leg. The men's "A" division trophy went to club pro Steve Coray, who managed to squeeze past Kunkel i playing left-handed) in a tough three-game final match. mat-ch. The trophy in the men's "C" division went to Craig Masters (Strawberry, if you will) with Dane Robinson, Craig Bergquist's dental partner, finishing a surprising sur-prising second. . , First place jn women's "C" division went to Patty Boals, with Annette Sneed taking second. In the junior division 17 and under ; Kenton Ken-ton Lewis defeated Mike Mahoney in the finals to win the first-place trophy. Walt Bishop clawed his way up through the ranks to win first place in the Men's Senior (over 35) division. Second place went to ... well, actually, they 'didn't give a second place trophy in Walt's division. because there were only two people entered. Rollers Give Pink Slip to Job Corps The Park City High Rollers put on their best scoring show of the soccer season to defeat the Clearfield Clear-field Job Corps 6-4 Saturday in Clearfield. A solid team performance by the High Rollers overshadowed over-shadowed an outstanding individual in-dividual effort by Clearfield forward Sergio Alexander, who slammed two goals past goalie Rich Phaler on two of the hardest shots the team has seen all season. Alexander opened the scoring about 15 minutes into the first half when he eluded Park City fullbacks Herman Stuivenvolt and Brooks Bloomfield and belted the ball into the net. Park City captain Garry Moore said that was one of the few times that the High Roller fullbacks allowed Alexander a clear shot on the net. "For most of the game they did a really good job of containing him," Moore said. About five minutes later, Greg Dolhauser tied the score on a picture play. Moore lifted a corner kick to Dolhauser who was breaking toward the Clearfield net from the right side of the penalty box. Dolhauser dove for the ball, heading it cleanly into the net past the surprised Clearfield goalie. Mike Sullivan gave Park City a 2-1 lead with another well-executed play a few minutes later. Taking a cen- Here's B-ball Schedule tering pass from George Hart, Sullivan tapped the ball into the net with the outside out-side of his left foot without breaking stride. Clearfield inside left Philip Anosike again tied the score about five minutes later, taking a pass from Alexander Alexan-der and beating Phaler with a clean shot. "Phaler played a really good game," Moore said. "He didn't let any junk go in at all." Sullivan put the High Rollers ahead 3-2 shortly afterwards, af-terwards, but Clearfield returned the favor to tie the score at 3-3 at the half. Ralph Morrison was given credit for the fourth Park City goal when a Clearfield defender, attempting to clear a high, bouncing pass, put. the ball past his own goalie. Marty Bonorden then gave the High Rollers a two- goal lead, taking a pass from Sullivan and lifting it over the head of the Clearfield goalie. Alexander brought his team within one with his second goal, using a karate-style karate-style kick to put a screaming, head-high shot into the corner of the Park City net. But Moore added an insurance goal for Park City about 10 minutes before the end of the game, when his corner kick hooked cleanly into the Clearfield net over the head of a defender and the surprised goalie. The High Rollers will put their one-game winning streak on the line this Saturday Satur-day against the league-leading league-leading Vikings. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Rosewood Park.
