Show Thursday, August 16, 1979 Page 11 There's Room For TRIYII TEST Two To Peru 1313 WOODSIDE AVENUE If you hurry, you may be one of the lucky ones who will fill the two remaining seats on a rock-bottom-priced, 16-day adventure to Peru. The trip is being arranged by Shirley Smith of the Chamber of Commerce and Beverly Ross at the Travel House, and both assure it will be one to remember. Shirley spent three months last year hiking through Peru. She now is putting together a trip through the land of the Incas for the lowest cost possible and will include an array of sights and experiences. She commented com-mented that this is not a "guided tour," but a way for the adventurous traveler to see some of the exciting aspects of the Peruvian culture and landscape in a short time. The trip leaves September 21 from Los Angeles to Lima, the capital city of Peru. During the three-day visit, the local travelers will see the priceless treasures of the ancient Peruvian civilizations, civiliza-tions, take a special tour through the country's most extensive private collection Arts Festival A Real Money Maker The Park City Arts Festival was a real money maker for most of the artists if earning estimates are close to accurate. According to Festival Director Tina Lewis, there may have been over half a million dollars in art sold on Main Street over the two festival days. Average artist sales were between $3,000 and $4,fl)0; the smallest individual in-dividual sales possibly around $500 and the greatest between $12,000 and $15,000. The director cautioned that these figures are rough estimates only. In past festivals organizers received Radio And Racquet A CB radio worth $50 and two tennis racquets valued at $60 were stolen from a Chevrolet Suburban parked in the north lot of the Holiday Inn Tuesday morning. The car owned by Steve Hurley of Pocatello, Idaho, was entered en-tered through the driver's window, possibly with a clothes hanger. Several accidents occured in Park City over the past week: A 1963 Plymouth Valiant driven by Steven Collins of Park City received $50 damages when it was struck by a 1978 Volkswagon driven by William Marden, also of Park City. The Volkswagen received damages valued at $300. Kathleen Dunn of Park City received $200 in damages to her 1978 Dodge van August 12 when she was struck by a 1977 Chevrolet Monza driven by Kelly Wright at the intersection of Park Avenue and 4th Street. A 1973 Capri driven by Karen Zidek of Salt Lake City sustained $400 in damages August 10 when it was struck in the rear end by Bev Dickson of Park City at the intersection of 5th Street and Main Street. of weaving and pottery, and stay in a private pension in the suburb of Miraflores. Then it's a short flight from Lima to Arequipa, where they say the sun shines 350 days a year. Following two days of touring the colonial city and exploring the ancient an-cient walled convent recently recent-ly opened to the public, travelers will take a night train that stops at the wool markets in Juiiaca before passing through herds of llamas and small villages on the way to Cuzco. Several days will be spent exploring the three Inca ruins within walking distance of one of the most famous and beautiful beauti-ful Peruvian cities. Four days will be spent hiking the 38 kilometer Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Elevations range from 7,000 to 13,000, crossing over four passes. Two nights will be spent in the tiny town of Aguas Calientes, three kilometers from Machu Picchu, where the ruins will be easily accessible plus the added attraction of being able to soak tired feet in the nearby thermal baths. Then it's back to Lima for a statements of sales from participating artists who paid ten percent of their earnings earn-ings as part of booth fees Last year, . festival organizers began charging a flat fee for booths; $65 for a 10-foot space, $85 for a 20-foot 20-foot space. This has allowed the artists to keep their earnings earn-ings private, and has made estimating individual and total sales more of a guessing game. Estimates of earnings this year are based in part on returned form evaluations, some anonymous, sent by Lewis to all the festival artists. The evaulations also A 1977 Ford Granada driven by Hilgar Parkes, Jr. of Boise, Idaho received $1,000 in damages August 8 when it was struck in the rear end by a 1976 Datsun F10 driven by Kenneth Neil of Midway. The accident occurred at the intersection of Park Avenue and Iron Horse Drive, and caused $1,500 in damages to the Datsun. Among the recommendations were several requests to extend the festival to three days, and a note from astronomy scene painter Ron Russell to hold next year's festival just before the full moon, as was done this year, to assure high energy levels. This week the Arts Festival Executive Committee Commit-tee will meet to review this year's festival and make recommendations for next year's event.
