Show Giants Outlast Pirates; Take Tournament Pa9e5 Thursday, August 16, 1979 " . - ".'. Bums Lose Two Bursal Remember the Alamo! Or rather it should be, Remember Remem-ber the Alamo? Obiviously failing to read their horoscopes before taking the field twice last Sunday, the Alamo Bums suffered two defeats within six hours. The Bums dropped drop-ped a 14-9 decision to Spencer's Spen-cer's Auto in the morning and then fell to the streaking Excitable Boys in the afternoon. after-noon. Despite the losses, the Bums remained on top of the beleagured Division I. Their 10-4 record still keeps them two games ahead of Doc's, which stood at 8-4 after another week's play. Auto Crash Things came crashing down on the Alamo quickly against Spencer's. The Autos jumped to a 12-0 lead at the end of two innings and then coasted in for the victory. Unaccustomed as he is to public pitching, Ron Schultz took the mound for the Bums and immediately walked the first three batters. A sacrifice fly and Gary Avise's single made it 3-0 and John Stewart's single added another run. A single by Pete " Goldsmith Gold-smith drove in two more runs and still another RBI single by Greg "Poundcake" Winn produced the final run of the inning. The Bums lived up to their name in the bottom of the first, going down 1-2-3. After Bob Burns singled and an error put another man on, Fred Marshal hit a two-run double. A sacrifice fly added another run and Avise then scored on Jim Dayton's single. Dayton's hit knocked Avise in and Schultz out. The battered pitcher was replaced by Jim Delanty. Delanty was greeted by Chuck Folkerth's towering shot over the head of an amazed Pat Brennan in left field. Folkerth's blast made it 12-0 before the Alamo had time to shake off their hangovers. The start of the game was played in a drizzle but by this time the Bums were praying for a gorilla monsoon. They could do nothing in the bottom bot-tom of the second. The Autos ran out of gas in the third but the Bums began coming to life. Dave Peets' reached on an infield hit and scored on an error. Winn walked two in a row and Craig Kunkel's single scored two more.
