Show THE Thursday, June 21, 1979 Page 11 DISCO V?wrv. vfrr- n It all seems a bit incongruous: in-congruous: The Brother Christopher Restaurant-designed Restaurant-designed to resemble an old, quiet monastery; patrons serviced by waiters dressed in floor length habits of brown cloth doubling as Park City's new, and only, disco. One gets sort of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde feeling, as if discovering John Travolta works as an abbot between weekends. "No it's not incongruous," says a laughing Leonard Jarosz, manager of the restaurant. "Didn't you see Brother Christopher smiling? He's smiling because he is a swinger." The stained glass Brother Christopher wasn't the only one smiling on The Detour Disco Deal's opening night last Friday. Some 130 people crowded into the restaurant's upper room for three and a half hours of dancing fun; Jarosz estimates another 50 people had to be turned away to prevent overcrowding. over-crowding. "Park City has always rolled up its streets and died after the close of ski season," says Jarosz. "That's not going to happen any more... now locals have a place to dance and have fun at night." The new disco has a light and sound system capable of creating a pulsating atmosphere at-mosphere of pinball machine intensity. Music is spun by a disc jockey from distortion-free Kenwood commercial studio turntables, tur-ntables, booming forth at 300 watts per channel from two Klipsch horn speaker arrangements. Ford told police the compressor com-pressor was on top of a cab of a truck parked in a storage yard at 1320 Park Avenue. The whole glittering assembly winks and blinks to the music, or can be speeded up to double and triple beat time. For those who like to keep an eye on their form there is a floor to celing mirror backing the stage. But Jarosz hasn't stopped the disco fun at the har dware. To spice things up further there will be: dance contests on Fridays and Saturdays (the winning couple receives a free Brother Christopher dinner, runners up get champagne), a 50's night on Sundays with prizes for the best costume, free set ups for ladies on Wednesday nights, and disco lessons on Monday with an instructor from Salt Lake City demonstrating the fancy new steps. The deal in The Detour Disco Deal is that there is no cover charge. All beverages are a dollar. "We welcome all the dan cers in town and look for ward to them joining us," says Jarosz. The Detour Disco Deal is open six nights a week from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., closed on Tuesdays. And those who always liked Brother Christopher as a quiet restaurant can take heart. According to Jarosz the restaurant's dining operations will not be affected affec-ted by the Brother's glittering glit-tering other side.
