What do you think of President Carter's new energy plan to decontrol domestic oil prices and tax any windfall profits made by the oil companies com-panies in order to finance energy research programs? Tom Skoog If Carter's taxing of the oil companies com-panies isn't worded so that the oil companies still have an incentive to explore for new oil then the excess profits tax will become just a punitive measure and be self-defeating. Kathy Dopp I think Carter's energy plans are necessary but personally I believe the government gover-nment should also concentrate on educating people on how to alter their lifestyles to conserve conser-ve energy. Consumers can help the national effort ef-fort to conserve energy and reduce pollution at the same time by buying fewer goods and by purchasing used and recycled goods instead of new ones. Ron Rohr Decontrol of domestic oil prices may seem harsh initially but in the long run the measure is necessary. This country is going to have to share the world's resources in a more equitable way with other nations if any type of peace in the world is to be obtained. Don Van Ness I think it depends on whether Carter can get the tax bill through Congress. His plan sounds good if the excess profit tax bill is passed, but considering the power of the oil companies, I doubt it will be. Scott Bunnell Because all authority on Earth is established by God himself I think man should be submissive to authority. Since Carter is president, his energy proposals should be followed. Bob Rosen Much too little, way too late to solve our nation's energy crisis. We should have anticipated our current energy needs 20 years ago.
