' v f. ?! . i Up Periscope Two major upsets marked last week's slowpitch action as undefeated powers in both the men's and ladies' leagues fell to previously undistinguished opponents. In Division I of the men's league, Denver's Mad Jacks saw their record tarnished by a surprising loss to the Woodhaus Sunday afternoon. after-noon. Taking advantage of a multitude of rally by their opponents to hold on for the victory. The Woodhaus, sporting a lowly 1-4 record coming into the game, knocked Denver Pyles' franchise out of a first place tie with the Alamo. The other stunning upset occured last Wednesday Outlaws and Wasatch Homes to stretch their win streak to six. Tied for third in Division 1 are the Drywallers and the Big Shots with 2-3 marks. The Drywallers played only one game last week and lost to Mt. Realty. The Big Shots beat Mt. Fishery 12-7 and then suffered a disappointing 8-5 defeat at the hands of powerful Spencer's Auto. Doc's was downed twice. They lost to the Mad Jacks on Wednesday and fell to the Old Men Sunday night. Mt. Fishery also lost twice. After losing to the Big Shots they dropped a decision to the Brothers and the Woodhaus Drywallers. Rejuvenated but still inconsistent, the Old Men put together two wins last week. They routed Wasatch Homes and used a late inning rally to overcome Doc's Back Door. Tied for third with the Old Men are the Players, who followed their loss to Spencer's with a win over the Outlaws. Woodhaus finished the week at 2-4 but were buoyed by their big win over Denver's Mad Jacks. Meanwhile, the 0-6 Wasatch Homers are anxiously awaiting their matchup with the Outlaws. night when the Rusty Nail thrashed the highly touted Red Banjo 28-4. But the Nail then turned around and dropped a 15-9 decision to the previously winless Double E squad on Monday night. Division I Prior to their loss to Woodhaus, Denver's Mad Jacks upped their record to 5-0 by beating Doc's Back Door on Tuesday, June 20. However, Sunday's loss dropped them a game behind the undefeated Alamo, which coasted by the Oops ! while the Outlaws remained winless, losing to the Alamo and the Park City Players. Division II Spencer's maintained their accustomed top spot in Division II as well as their undefeated record. After beating the Players, the Autos survived the 8-5 scare perpetrated by the Big Shots. The Brothers stayed in second place with a win over Mt. Realty and a drubbing of Mt. Fishery while the Mt. Realtors kept their third spot with victories over Ladies' League The Red Banjo may have lost but Hutton's Hustlers and Ryan's Hope (formerly The Club) kept on winning. Hutton disposed of the Prospector Sirloin 22-11 while Ryan's Hope downed the Cozy 15-10 and then narrowly beat the Prospector 17-16 in a wind-chilled, wind-chilled, rain-dampened late night game Monday. After their defeat at the hands of the Rusty Nail, the Red Banjo rebounded for a 12-8 win over Johnston Development (formerly Park West.) Following the Red Banjo in the standings is the Rusty Nail, which was at both ends of the stick in the upset department. The Spa climbed to 2-3 with a win over the Alamo while the Prospector dropped to 23, suffering ,, losses to Hutton and Ryan's Hope .";bvv;n ,h The Cozy's loss to Ryan's, Hope left them just ahead of Johnston Development which beat the Alamo before succumbing to the Red Banjo. If it weren't for losses the Alamo would have no standing at all. July 4th Rest Following Friday's contest between Johnston Development and the Double E, the ladies' league will suspend action for the July 4th holiday. Play will resume on July 5. Men's play will begin again on July 7.
