It wasn't Rene Farwig, director of the Park City Ski School, who arranged a nordic ski clinic for his staff of alpine instructors instruc-tors last Sunday at the golf course. Wolfe's sports store loaned approximately 75 pairs of cross-country skis to the skeptical downhillers. "They sure are light," "this one only has half a binding ! " White Pine Ski Touring Center instructors Nancy Kassow, Al Davis, Bob Kassow, Al Bronstein, Dee Christensen and Jim Miller took the crew in hand. Allez! Allez! They were quick to catch on. When asked if there were any converts to crosscountry cross-country skiing, one of the more enthusiastic participants par-ticipants remarked, "It has its moments." III A I 1 M A I Park High's grapplers continued con-tinued their winning ways last Wednesday, finishing first in a four-team tournament tour-nament held on the home mat. The Miners boasted five weight class champions as they downed second place East Carbon, third place Tabiona and Intermountain, which finished last. The first place winners in cluded Quinn Sieverts in the 105 lb. class, Randy Schaffer in the 112 lb. category, 126 lb. champ Doug Dean, Cory Provost in the 145 lb. division and 155 lb. champion Cliff Martinez. Also adding the Miners' point total were Rhett Wright who took a second in the 98 lb. class, Bobbie Pace, third among the 132 lb. contestants, con-testants, 138 lb. Kent Smith who also finished third, Gar- th Ford, second in the 167 lb., class, third place Steve Mann in the 185 lb. competition com-petition and heavyweight John Newland, who also took a third. Park City will travel to. South Summit this Thursday and Friday to compete in an eight-team tournament. Matches start at 1:30. v . The rally, which pits four-wheel drive . vehicles against each other j in an attempt to scale a steep embankment, was endorsed :by the Park City council Thursday night. Skyline representative ,; Bruce Ditzer told the council he has received tentative approval for use of the Deer Valley site from Royal Street Land Company President Warren King. Mr. King's final decision, he said, would depend on the council's action. Ditzer said the two-day event would be held on a weekend in mid-February. mid-February. "We are not one of those fly-by-night clubs," Ditzer told the council. "We've been around since 1961. We're a family club and we've got this thing down to a science." The Skyline representative represen-tative said no alcoholic beverages would be sold from the club's concession' stand.
