Show Wednesday, October 19, 1977 Supply Delays Slow Local Building Police Training Page 9 Continued From Page 1 '"But prices are sneaking up," he continued. con-tinued. "People expect it, but something's got to be done. It's political and it could stand some study." Cement costs have risen from $1 to $2 a yard in a year's time and Groves looks for an additional $1 to $2 increase by next spring. A local resident who contracts out of Salt Lake City feels the entire supply and deman situation has been contrived. "Building has been at a steady level since spring," he noted. "Why has there been no shortage until now when there has been no increase in the construction level?" Manager Willy Gurski of Anderson Lumber Company in Park City expressed ex-pressed few problems with shortages. "We've had no trouble so far," he commented. "We're allocated so much cement per year and we can get it to that point," Gurski said. Anderson receives approximately 60 bags per week and can sell it immediately, im-mediately, according to the manager. "Considering the tremendous construction con-struction boom in the Park City and Salt Lake vicinity, things are running pretty smoothly," he said. Skip Schirf of Schirf Construction has experienced waits up to three weeks for a single yard of concrete. "There are three people in town who are well supplied-the Holiday Inn, Enoch Smith Developers and C&H Construction," Con-struction," noted Schirf. "If you're not contracting their jobs, concrete is difficult dif-ficult to obtain." Layne Atwood, concrete contractor for the Racquet Club Village project, said he is experiencing no difficulties. "Enoch Smith supplies my material and they are ordered in such large quantities quan-tities that there's no problem," Atwood said. Jim Park of Park Construction Co. has also experienced long waits for insulation in-sulation and wood. "Insulation is in so much demand the suppliers just can't meet our needs," Park said. He has also experienced the sheetrock shortage, especially with the 58 inch rather than the '2 inch used for commercial commer-cial buildings. He put sheetrock delays atone week. In addition, Park expressed lumber concerns. "With the lack of moisture in the Pacific Northwest and the summer forest closures, lumber prices have gone up 15 to 20 per cent over the course of the summer," he noted. "Legally we're locked into a bid by a contract and we're the ones who get hurt. It's getting hard to bid a house with shortages shor-tages and prices going up," he added. The following report reflects the training that the officers of the Park City Police Department received during the 1976-77 fiscal year, ending June 30, 1977. Officer Allen 390 Hours . Sergeant Crowley and Detective Berry have been enrolled in the Weber State College Police Science Program on a full-time basis each quarter since the fall of 1976. This is done on their own time and is in addition to filling their regular shifts. There was a total of 1,256 hours of training which is an average of just over 179 hours per man. Approximately 536 hours of this time was accomplished on the officer's own time, which is just under two weeks per officer. This does not count any of the college classes taken by Crowley and Berry.
