Show Page 18 Special Edition Photo Fest Judges Flooded With Entries A month-long photography exhibit opened this month at the Kimball Art Center in Park City, and some 56 local amateur and professional photographers were selected to hang their work as part of Photography Festival '77. A total of 136 photographers entered nearly 530 photographs to be judged for the exhibit. "We were overwhelmed by the response of local photographers to this first annual Photography Festival '77," said Nick Nass, Director of Photography at the Kimball Art Center and coordinator of the event. "Obviously, there is a great deal of interest in photography throughout Utah. We have created an annual event that we expect each year to draw even greater participation from photographers in the intermountain region." Noting that the Photography Festival '77 exhibit will continue throughout the Park City Arts Festival, Nass commented that "the public exposure that these 56 photographers will receive is unmatched." The work of national photographers on exhibit from the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona includes original prints from the collections of Ansel Adams, Paul Strand, Wynn Bullock, Stephen Shore, Paul Gibson and Harry Callahan. "For the work of the local photographers to hang alongside the prints of these great national photographers is an additional honor in itself," said Nass. Commenting on the entire show, Nass added that "As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the finest photography exhibits ever held in the state of Utah. I inyite everyone who has even the slightest passing interest in photography to come up and see what serious photography is all about."
