Conditions Although the preliminary approval provides Amechor the authority needed to proceed at this stage,- the commission stipulated that final approval would not be ffiven until financing for the project is obtained and documented and the lease agreement between Amechor and Jie University of Utah is reviewed by the commission. It was reported that the lease was finalized on Fridav. Meets with Officials Acting commission chairman Burnis Watts met with U of U authorities on Wednesday, Feb. 11. He said the University feels there is a sound guarantee that the facility will succeed. :.- . Housing ? One of the pivotal issues which has been discussed since the project was first presented is the 318 housing units which are to be a part of the complex. Objection ' have been raised concerning the density created by an education building, a recreation building and the housing on 10 . acres of land. Western Woodland, which is marketing the Institute, has countered that present zoning allows for 405 units. Priorities for use of the housing has also been a focal point., , Amechor is donating use of the educational building to the University but will retain control of the rental housing. Under terms agreed upon by both parties, the University is guaranteed at least SO percent per-cent of the housing for its continuing education programs provided that 60 days notice is given. Those units not being used by the University will be filled, when possible by groups recruited by Western Woodlands. - Amechor Amechor consists of three principals: Keith Garner, a California developer; Dr. Alex Oblad, the dean of the University of Utah College of Mining; and Orrin Hatch, a Salt Lake City attorney. In response to fears that the housing might someday be condominiumized, the principles have stated that they would be sole owners of the development and have no thought of splitting the ownership. The only exception ex-ception would be in a case where financial considerations con-siderations require that additional partners be ac cepted to provide additional funds. The feasibility of the project has been based on a 70 percent occupancy figure of the housing and Garner said he foresees no problem in attaining this goal. He would not put his money into it if he thought otherwise, he added. . Result If all goes as projected, the Institute when completed, will provide the University of Utah with a facility which-meets which-meets its needs for professional seminars and conferences, will provide Amechor with a convention center and rental housing and will provide Park City with sorely needed summer visitors. Asked if the housing facilities will drain business from local lodge owners, Gordon Sloan of Western' Woodlands has stated that the University and his company will be generating their own traffic and, thus, will not be depleting the market. Sloan is also quick to point out that the Institute will, create an influx of tourist dollars to Park City which would not be realized otherwise, especially during the summer months. ; , Vote'; When the vote for approval was taken, Commissioners Bob Wells, Bill Bertagnole and Jerry Perrine were affirmative af-firmative while : Commissioner Com-missioner Ann Clark abstained. ab-stained.
